Opinion | Celebrate 420 and the growing acceptance of the healing pleasures of pot

John Moore / Getty Images fileI’m 35, so I remember the days when teachers and parents would say things likeWell, my mind is quick and quite sharp, and I have not walked through a gateway and into addiction to another drug just because I enjoy a joint now and again.

That’s why, like many people, I’ll be participating in April 20, better known as 4/20 — a massive, worldwide celebration of weed culture, freedom and food. And if you unfortunately suffer from cancer , according to the clinical research, this medicine — not “drug” mind you — will help inspire that appetite and prompt deep, peaceful sleep.

The term 420, which is most often attributed to police codes, actually began in 1971 in Marin County, California, whenSan Rafael High School pals who enjoyed pot would meet after class at 4:20p.m. by a statute of chemist Louis Pasteur. One of the guys became a roadie with a member of the band Grateful Dead, who caught wind of the code word created by the one-time students, and the rest, they say, is history.

April 20, then, is the annual day of the year when cannabis enthusiasts light up, nibble an edible, laugh, eat, light up again, relax and perhaps listen to some Carlos Santana or TOOL — or maybe that’s just me — often in public places, like Civic Park in Denver, which hasBut if the sight of thousands of people congregating in a public place to smoke weed and listen to music doesn’t tick off the conservative anti-marijuana jackals, the reality that more states are welcoming weed with open arms...

Take former Attorney General Jeff Sessions — who was fired by President Donald J. Trump late last year: He has regularly opined that marijuana will “destroy your life.”

THINK As long as the legal age is 21. As weed inhibits brain development. Then OK,,one other thingy will it be legal to grow your own? Or stuck with god knows what they will add to it.

THINK Legalize marijuana, it will change your states future for the better. Less reliance on the federal government for money, when your state can fund their own projects with marijuana tax revenue.

THINK Putting smoke from any the burning of anything will lead to lung cancer. Only idiots want that.

THINK Opinion: it is same as alcohol; use responnsiblyMy biggest worry:driving under the influence. Reflex reaction time & cognitive thinking behind the wheel or operating anything dangerous. Would you let a dedicated pot head smoke while they babysit or work for you in any capacity?

THINK And then there's the ignorant statements from people like Speaker of the Wisconsin State Assembly SpeakerVos talking about legalizing medical marijuana. 'We’re not going to decriminalize it so people can carry around baggies of weed all over the state.' 420Day

THINK Marijuana should be as legal as coffee and doughnuts. It is ridiculous that we are still dealing with the 'Reefer Madness syndrome'. Marijuana is safer than most groceries we purchase.
