Op-Ed: Republicans want to win — and Trump's now a loser (via latimesopinion)

If Mitch McConnell had picked Senate candidates for the midterms, without interference from Trump, Republicans would likely have picked up several seats.

But on Friday, when Atty. Gen. Merrick Garland announced the appointment of Jack Smith as a special counsel to investigate Trump’s possession of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago — the point of that search last August — the response from Republicans was muted. Garland also gave Smith part of the Jan. 6 portfolio.

Admittedly, if you were only casually following the media coverage it wouldn’t seem muted. But most of the Republicans claiming to be outraged by the appointment are the same Republicans who are always outraged by everything. Trump, of course, threw a tantrum. He said that among “the gravest threats to our civilization…. None is greater than the weaponization of the justice system, the FBI, and the DOJ.” He then proceeded to clarify what he meant by “our civilization”: Me.

But House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy said nothing. Mitch McConnell — who doesn’t love Trump but stillSome other presidential wannabes offered mostly tepid criticism. Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson and former Secretary of State

JonahDispatch opinion This is some mental gymnastics, Jonah. Trump is guilty because he didn’t offer a proactive defense prior to being raided?

JonahDispatch opinion I hope you're right, bruh.

JonahDispatch opinion So no one noticed that Garland passed off TWO cases...? And the Jan6 committee can use him also since we're Ridin with Biden and he'll just go about his business... I'll be surprised if the cases aren't folded together... Such deference though to such a crooked traitor...

JonahDispatch opinion when does news become objective again

JonahDispatch opinion The last place I’m getting information on the GOP is the LA times. C’mon

JonahDispatch opinion

JonahDispatch opinion Or it could be they're sane people who believe in the rule of law. I can't believe I just typed they without bursting out laughing.

JonahDispatch opinion It indicates no big shift at all. The GOP lacked integrity prior to Trump and it lacks integrity today.

opinion Yeah Democrats need to jump on the Trump train and get him nominated. It's a risk worth taking.

opinion 'now' = 'has always been'

opinion 🤗😎🤗

Letters: Don't be fooled, Republicans have not 'dumped' TrumpLetters to the Editor: We need real journalism. Trump is not dumped. Another hate-filled letter from a fascist Democrat who can’t stand free speech and democracy. Yes, I'm sure all Republicans are the devil. Especially the ones who are ready to dump Trump for DeSantis. DeSantis is even more dangerous than Trump, right? Because the Left fears a Biden-DeSantis debate worse than anything, ever. Hope Republicans further anchor themselves to trump. Even if he doesn't get indicted, he lost BIGLY, his candidates all lose, and he'll lose again. Enjoy the losing... MAGAcult GOPTraitors
