Washington is bracing for potentially dangerous clashes as Congress certifies the outcome of the presidential race — protests that have gained momentum on fringe social media platforms and a website hosted by Trump-affiliated groups

Congress’ meeting today for the normally ceremonial process of counting the Electoral College ballots, a nonprofit that tracks extremist activity on tech platforms, said President Donald Trump’s rhetoric rejecting the election results has inspired radical right-wing and white supremacist groups to organize on less-moderated fringe sites like Parler and Telegram in hopes of “turning Washington streets into election protest war zones.

”in anticipation of today’s clashes, and the tech industry is calling on Congress to certify the election results. “We urge Congress to fulfill its role and count the Electoral College votes as consistent with the rule of law and ensure the peaceful transition of power that defines our democracy,” said Consumer Technology Association President and CEO Gary Shapiro.
