And it is worthwhile getting the fit right , because the mix of hardware and software powering the ANC means the OnePlus Buds Pro confidently deliver on the promise of noise cancellation, while still doing their best to keep you connected to the outside world… but the UX around it needs more work.
I want to highlight two more features in the software. The first is Audio ID, which takes you through a hearing test as the software profiles your own audio capacity to create a profile to optimise your listening experience. It does make a difference, even though it is naturally a ‘one time only’ operation, it shows thought in creating the best audio conditions. The profile created is based around OnePlus’ decisions on what audio should sound like.
That’s not the case with Zen Mode Air in the OnePlus Buds Pro. This is a feature that I am using, and it does add value to my experience. Thankfully it’s not ‘we’re going to switch your headphones off for twenty minutes so you can’t listen to anything’. Instead it switches on active noise cancelling and plays gentle sounds in the background, such as ‘summer seashore’, meditation’, or my personal favourite ‘nighttime camping’.
