You can also set this up on any smartphone - not just a OnePlus phone - using the Hey Melody app downloadable from the Google Play Store. I’d love to see this better documented because downloading an app visibly coded and recommended by OnePlus feels a lot more comfortable than a third-party app coded by someone called HeyTap.Perhaps the biggest feature of the audio experience is the addition of Spatial Audio, which lifts your audio out of a point source to something more expansive.

Sitting with it ‘off’ and I can hear my music very much in the center of my head. Fixed lifts the sound to be much more expansive; it feels like it is filling a much larger space… think about the move from a small stage in the corner of a pub up to, say the Trondheim Spektrum arena in Norway. The final mode here is Head Tracking, and this is a fascinating experience.

I say fascinating because I find this a little distracting in day-to-day use. Podcast listening while out and about doesn’t need the hosts to stay in front of me, they need to stay relative to me. So I tend to leave this in fixed mode - partly to suit what I listen to, but also because it’s a pretty fiddly option to find in the settings.
