A scene from Netflix’s One Piece live-action trailer suggests it might be making a good change from the original anime. This is especially heartening to see, given that making changes while transferring anime to live action is inevitable, but it can and has caused problems for the One Piece Netflix adaptation, given how narratively and visually distinct anime can be.

Monkey in his quest to become the pirate king, a task which he expects to complete by uncovering the previous king's, Gol D. Roger, famous treasure, the ‘one piece.’ Along with him is Luffy’s crew of Straw Hat pirates, of whom one of the most senior members is Nami .
Netflix's One Piece's Makes Nami A More Complete Character From The Start In the original One Piece series, Nami is not the first crew member to join Luffy on his journey. Instead, this title goes to Zoro , whom Luffy saves from execution by the Marines. Nami is then the second crewmember to jump aboard the ship of the Straw Hat pirates after she runs into Luffy by happenstance while trying to avoid the Superhuman Domingos in the Orange Town arc.
However, it seems as though Nami’s recruitment may go differently in the live-action series than it did in the anime. In One Piece‘s first live-action trailer, there’s a shot where Nami is fighting alongside Luffy and Zoro during the scene where the group rescues the swordsman. This suggests that the series may address Nami’s introduction and first adventure with Luffy in greater detail from the beginning, bringing her into the story with more expediency than the anime.
One Piece's Nami Change Will Make Season 1's Biggest Battle Better With Arlong potentially one of One Piece‘s biggest villains for season 1, it makes even more sense to have Nami’s character more deeply tied into the story right from the beginning. After all, by making Nami more important to the story, the battle between Arlong and Luffy then becomes more interesting and narratively impactful because the audience will have a stronger understanding of the stakes.
