Others had died, too, including the man in the next room, although it’s not clear if he died of Covid-19. On April 2, Gardner defied a nationwide lockdown to drive 270 kilometers from her home to see her father. She stood outside his window, watching as her dad dozed. “He had his eyes shut and he just looked comfortable and calm,” she said. “He loved classical music, so they had that on.”Gardner is taking the government to court, alleging discrimination and a failure to protect the vulnerable.
