Castle Rock police were called to a shooting at an apartment complex near Castle Rock Parkway and Castlegate Drive West after 1 a.m. Tuesday.
Two people were reportedly shot after a fight in the complex’s parking lot. One of the victims died and the other was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Mercado allegedly initially fled the scene, but officers through interviews identified him and later located him in a vehicle in downtown Castle Rock about 10 a.m. Tuesday.
