One group that won't entirely benefit from going 'back to normal': Grocery stores

New York Last year, people were stockpiling food and essentials at stores and ordering a lot more groceries online. That was great news for America's biggest grocery chains.

Now companies say the pandemic-time boom is over. Kroger , the largest supermarket chain in this country, said Thursday that it expects comparable sales, or sales at stores open for at least one year, to decline by 3% to 5% this year. Sales increased 14.1% in 2020.There is now"quite a challenging setup for grocers," Rupesh Parikh, analyst at Oppenheimer, said in a note to clients Thursday. Other grocers expect sales slowdowns from a year ago as well.

The nice thing about lockdown has been our friends are using all those kitchen gadgets that have been gathering dust and calling me to ask what’s the difference between a green or black cardamom pod.

People need to take lessons from what happened. It’s only a matter of time before there is another issues. In the last year and a half we’ve seen a pandemic, political unrest/violence, an attack on water for a town that would have killed, and storms. Have emergency supplies.

I JUST started finding canned beans on the shelves in my county again right before the snow storms, and out of fear that it was a 1 time event, I bought 5 cans of every variety. I've got about a year worth of canned beans now...I think I'll donate them to a food bank.
