A month before LA Metro considers fare increase, the agency is reaching its goal for new low-income ‘LIFE’ pass riders.

At a table in front of the Glendale Central Library on Thursday, Nov. 3, Victoria Asceneio filled out an application for LA Metro’s newest discount fare program for low-income riders.

Metro “swag” is placed on tables for riders at a low-cost fare sign-up drive in Glendale, CA Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022. Metro is hoping to sign up at least 182,000 participants in the new LIFE program. GoPass program that offers K-12 and community college students free rides on buses, light rail and subways.

“These are steps towards a total fare-less system. We are not there yet. But we are moving in that direction,” said Ara Najarian, Glendale City Council member and chair of the LA Metro Board of Directors, as he stood near the sign-up table.
