Her boyfriend, Simon Ray Lopez, 56,"stated he did not put his hands on the victim, and he only wanted to go to bed," the police report said. He was arrested, and is being held at the Lucas County Corrections Center on a domestic violence charge.
"He utilized his training and his experience to recognize that a woman was in distress," Navarre told NBC News."We have no way of knowing what would have happened if she didn’t get through." "Or they also teach not just pizza but Chinese food," and when the"operator tells you that you have the wrong number, say 'no,'" Navarre said."A good dispatcher is going to recognize that this is a person who wants to talk and needs help. That is exactly what happened here," he said."Some dispatchers might hang up on this person, but it’s worth a try give it your best shot. That's what she did, and it worked out extremely well.
Christopher Carver, while he was the dispatch center operations director for the National Emergency Number Association, last year that asking for"pizza in emergency situations is not standard practice or procedure.”
I hope this gets virally retweeted as a public service.
Smart and cunning. Good for her! Glad the dispatcher figured it out. He must have heard the desperation in the 'No no no no no!'
Arrest her!!
Never seen this before what a strange weird call in to the police but hey at least it was something
OrderingPizza should become a standard safety phase for anyone who’s life is being threatened while calling 911. TheJusticeDept , thoughts?
How are they not trained to understand that when it is such common practice that I have heard of it before
Quick thinking. Very.
Great recognition.
Wow...cheers to that guy
And the continuing saga will be, will the woman go back to her partner, or will she leave for good this time?
He did a great job but there was no need to ask if he was still there? Of course he was there. If he were gone: she could have spoken normally. You can't think 2 or 3 levels deep in a rush.
This is appauling im a 911 dispatcher and ofcourse we get mock joke calls but when you are unsure you are trained to ask specific questions to see if someone is actually in sanger and cannot speak freely.
Cant wait till this becomes a hot thing for spoiled kids to try .. great reporting.. really an eye opener
It's ok...My mom is a bitch as well!
I hope a local pizza place gives her free pizza. Great idea using 911 that way. Very clever.
kittycatNY01 kittycatNY01 This is a suburb of Toledo. Across the Maumee River east side - Oregon. Pronounced OrEGone.
This has happened before, victim calling 911 pizza for domestic abuse, but it's amazing that this tactic is being used esewhere in the country.
🤣 🤣 🤣
BrooksDslbrooks One GREAT cop. ❤️
Those laughing at the 911 operator SHAME on them.
If you take the time to read the article, you’ll discover that not all dispatchers have been clued in to this technique for a domestic partner to get help! It’s wild that not everyone knew, but it’s great that this one 911 call taker figured it out! domesticviolence
Why is there a picture of an Oregon police vehicle in a story taking place in Ohio?
Hey fools. The car clearly say OREGON on the side of it... Nice work.
That was a facebook fake news that told women to do that
So this was a “meme” going around. Glad someone actually understood the code.
So glad to hear that everyone is safe
Smart woman! Great cop!
Holy Toledo.
Wow, all I see is a courageous woman
This is exactly why texting to 911 should be nationally accepted!!
Now we know why Melania Trump orders so many pizzas.
Kudos to the dispatcher! The young lady who made the phone call is very smart and very brave. I hope that jackass who hit her mom gets to rot in jail.
Great thinking and it was a quick how the dispatcher picked up on it!
This is awesome.
here in Brazil shit nor if you beg for a help of any kind and social you are not attended 😭😭😭😭
👍
MaMoosie Happened less than 20 minutes from me. LOVE that it is getting national attention for so many reasons!
❤️❤️❤️
OR or OH
Clever lady! 😉
Aman with Intelligence. Thank you. Girlsrule
good lateral thinking
Great but maybe don't draw attention to it because it makes it harder for the next woman to get help if her abuser knows what she's trying.

I wish something like this had been available back in the late 80s - would have saved myself a whole heap of issues. Kudos to this officer AND to the daughter who was brave enough to make the call to protect her mom.
Well done to him . ALL police dispatchers should always be on high alert for such calls - where the caller is desperately trying to get help .
Wow. Great story.
Ohio, Oregon, same diff.
MarySmithNews such a good story if you haven't seen it
At least we still have intelligent justices of law here. I applaud this officer
Super job!
Clever. Good job.
Hello, 9-1-1? Yeah, we’d like to order a pizza and have it delivered to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in Washington D.C.—an extra large with eggplant and canned tuna. Thanks, America!
Well done! orderapizza domesticviolence
KUDOS to an astute dispatcher!!
Wow.
Ironically the code to have drugs delivered to u is 'extra anchovies' on my pizza.
