The Ohio Supreme Court, for a third time, has rejected Republicans’ state legislative maps, a move that state legislative leaders have said likely will result in a delay for at least part of the May primary.

The 54% Republican, 46% Democratic split in the new state legislative map equals the average share of the statewide vote Republicans and Democrats received, respectively, during the last decade of statewide partisan elections -- a number referenced in the new redistricting rules for state legislative maps.

Brunner, who is running against Kennedy to replace O’Connor as chief justice at the end of the year, wrote her own dissent that defended the court’s authority to enforce the political rules. “Those office holders hold office under a current district plan that is neither compact nor proportional according to the terms of [the new state constitutional language]. Thus, efforts to protect these incumbents in noncompliant districts can neither be a legitimate and neutral goal nor comport” with the new rules, the majority opinion says.

The Ohio Constitution does not require all seven members of the Ohio Redistricting Commission to cooperate and jointly draw the maps, Kennedy wrote, and has a provision if there is no bipartisan consensus: that the maps would only last four years.

What the hell is sooo frickin difficult on just splitting up counties into districts.. someone with common sense without an agenda could do it on a day easily..

why dont we just leave the fucking things alone and they can fight each other and waste our tax money later

They need to just draw a big tic tac toe board on a map of the State of Ohio, creating nine large districts, and be done with it.

Ohio Supreme Court rejects statehouse maps, ending hopes of full May primaryThe Ohio Supreme Court rejected state House and Senate maps for the third time, effectively ending any hopes of a complete May primary. Ohh no. How are the Republicans going to win (CHEAT) now? If there were only a way to bill these Republicans obstructionists what they are costing the taxpayers. What an immoral amount of time and money. Why aren’t these justices locking up these criminals? Are they ignoring a judges direct order, or is the judge blind & impotent? Either charge, arrest, try, convict, sentence & imprison these unAmerican enemies of democracy, or replace these jello spined judges. Ohio is waiting.
