Sophia Dempsey, 22, and Julia Lankisch, 22, appeared in court Monday, each facing a felony charge of committing a crime while wearing disguise.

CINCINNATI, Ohio — A grand jury on Monday ignored felony charges against two people who were arrested Saturday while participating in a pro-Palestinian protest during commencement ceremonies at Xavier University. The charges came after Ohio Attorney General Dave Yostsaying that people wearing masks during protests could violate a little-known state law would allow a misdemeanor charge to be upgraded to a fourth-degree felony.

A witness tells the Enquirer that Dempsey and Lankisch were wearing blue medical-style masks when they were arrested. Dozens of the 7,000 graduates at Duke University left their seats to protest pro-Israel speaker and comedian Jerry Seinfeld during the commencement Sunday in Durham, North Carolina.
