A maritime official says the engines of a cruise ship failed off Norway's coast during a storm because they didn't have enough lubricating oil.

Some of the remaining passengers look out as the cruise ship Viking Sky arrives at port off Molde, Norway, Sunday March 24, 2019, after having problems and issuing a Mayday call on Saturday in heavy seas off Norway's western coast.

Lars Alvestad, the head of Norway’s Maritime Authority, said Wednesday that low oil levels were the “direct cause” of the engine failure that stranded the Viking Sky on Saturday.

Total negligence

Been there .....

Some didn't pull dip stick to check oil...damn....

“Quick everyone spit on it!”

Costing ridiculousness to squeeze every ounce of profit such that it ends up hurting or costing lives should be looked into as criminal behavior. Holding those in high leadership and their Board of Directors accountable will set quite the precedent.

Looks like the Norwegian sovereign fund picked the wrong time to get out of oil.

So they just ignore the check engine light too, uh..?

So they had to air-vac ppl out cause the ship needed an oil change..?🤦🏾‍♂️

What happened to KY?

PSA: Folks, use lube.

Dipsticks!

they ran out of lube

No one bothered to check the dipstick?

Did anybody investigate aoc For taking out the oil you know how she is about no more oil being used

Think I’ll save this for the next time some smart-ass lectures me about technology safety systems vs Mother Nature. Nuke plants come to mind. Fukushima anyone? Human error anyone?

'Diesels love their oil like a sailor loves his rum.' -Captain Ron

No one checked the oil! Who drove it last!!! Take it out from their allowance

One time my uncle ran his dodge neon out of oil. Kind of the same thing right? Maybe next time the captain won't ignore that Valvoline sticker on his windshield like my uncle did.

How did that happen?

My sex life..

Well I guess Norway cruises are off my list

How can a modern ship have the same issue that has already caused many earlier ships to sink? This was one of the causes of the El Faro going down. The oil intakes lose pressure due to the rolling of the ship in rough seas. No way this should still be happening.

If it was a gay cruise, they would of had plenty of lube 😂

Isn’t there an alarm for low oil or high temp?

Check the oil before a long trip is what I always say

Lube that tube. It's rule number one.

I think this is also why Trump’s first two marriages failed as well.

Blimey. Errr.....

Wouldn't have happened to the Love Boat. Gopher was always prepared to lube up.

bring back rowing teams for cruise ship discounts.

You Lying Thieving Crooks told the World Bill Gates and Paul Allen created My Altair 8800 Computer, My Interpreters, My MSDOS and My MicroSoft Operating System as well giving wrong credit for Apple, Amazon, PayPal, SpaceX, Tesla, Alphabet, Google, YouTube, Facebook etc. CDM

That’s not good.

Why were they low on oil, and if low, why didn't the crew just top them off? Not a very thorough report, AP.

Too bad all the grease monkeys were fired in the name of political correctness

must be one hell of a dipstick

Never ignore the 'CHECK ENGINE' light.

Well at least it wasn't something basic... WTF!

They were too preoccupied to secure enough beer for the trip.

What did the crew do to the rest of it? 🤔

Someone forgot to check the dipstick? Oops! That reminds me...!

thats what she said

They could have used some of the ungodly amount of KY aboard!

A floating whorehouse without enough lubricant?

Is that the only reason?

Lube up ladies

jiffylube strikes again.

Not enough lube... hate when that happens

Couldn't they have just spit on it?

Engineers skipping maintenance and falsifying logs.

therealCJPurdy

Oil be fcuked

so two planes crash and 300 people die because the airlines didn't want to pay extra for a part and software, a cruise ship which costs hundreds of millions is almost lost because of few thousand dollars worth of engine oil, makes me feel very safe traveling around the world

Ooooops!!

Is that part of their 'Going Green' use less fossil fuels program? NewGreenDeal

What? No oil in Norway? Now that is irony.

Always need more lube. More lube is never a bad thing

I read this morning that Norway is without sun for 2 months each year. 2 months of darkness.

They are making this too easy to joke about.

Don't they have a 'dip-stick' for Christ's sake?

jiffylube

Hell my daughters know how to check the oil

NorwayMFA potencia petrolera

same tbh

“Ain’t got no gas in it”

Dude, I’ve definitely been THERE.

Oh boy!! 😉 🤷‍♂️

Hehe... lube... 😆😆😆

PFFFFFT BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA Oh, FIVE STARS. Shut up and take my MONEY.

It's a cruise ship, surely there had to be plenty tubes of KY available!

Geofence around the US. National polling system. Make your voice heard. Hear the nation's voice.

I think that's called negligence. Why in hell would anyone want to risk their life by stepping foot on a cruise ship. They should all be permanently docked

Omg🤬🤬

Rookie mistake. Always use plenty of lubricating oil.

Not having enough lubricating oil can really be a pain in the ass

visitnorway hire JustinDiesso

Can’t forget the lube. Major 🔑

So, basic maintenance. Exhibit 392 for why I will never take a cruise.

Oops

Amateur mistake

Green new deal at work 😂😂😂😂😂

EVERYONE KNOWS YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH LUBE!

Shortage of lubricating oil causes so many problems.
