CLEVELAND, Ohio — An off-duty Cleveland police officer was shot and killed Friday night during a carjacking, according to five law enforcement sources.Kamm’s neighborhoodThe off-duty officer fought back against the robbers and was shot twice, the sources said. An ambulance took the officer to Fairview Hospital, where he died.
The officer, whom officials did not identify, was hired in 2019 and worked in the city’s Fifth District, in the northeast corner of the city. Drummond, who will become the acting police chief on Jan. 3, also later confirmed the arrest and said police recovered the slain officer’s car. Mayor-elect Justin Bibb thanked law enforcement who investigated the crime and asked residents to keep the officer’s family in their prayers.
