Proposal includes design competition for by-pass system to carry sand from Camp Pendleton under city's harbor

A controversial plan to keep sand on Oceanside beaches by building rock groins or an artificial reef returns to the City Council on Wednesday for the approval of more planning expected to cost $2.6 million.

Keim serves as Oceanside’s representative on the San Diego Association of Governments’ Shoreline Preservation Working Group. The group has 13 members from the county’s coastal and bayfront cities who meet quarterly to discuss coastal issues. Beaches south of the city’s pier get little of the harbor’s dredged sand and have eroded to cobblestones and rocks. The first phase of the sand project recommended a system of groins, which are walls of boulders extending into the ocean, to retain the sand in those areas.

“We certainly empathize with the people of Oceanside who want sand back on their beaches,” Surfrider said in a statement posted last year on its website. “However, Surfrider is opposed to groins due to the detrimental effect they have on surrounding beaches.

I hate beach groin, the salt and sand can destroy a healthy groin...

2.5 million Ok sure, I’m sure it will end up costing waaay more.

“…by building rock groins or an artificial reef …” I think I get it but commas would be a welcome addition

Everything you need to know about Utah’s latest voucher proposalWhat are school vouchers? How do they impact public schools? And how much do they cost? Here's a breakdown of what you need to know as Utah lawmakers consider a new voucher program in the state. Money should follow the students, not the schools. You are telling a lie by structure. Shut down your rag. This is nothing but a grift by utleg to benefit their crony friends. Charter schools (most run by private entities) operate under financial scrutiny. Now they can create private schools, take taxpayer $ with no accountability. A scam for UT taxpayers. Education funds should go to the parents and students. Let them decide how to spend it on their own education.
