Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez weighed in on the debate about whether those in prison for felony crimes should be allowed to vote by suggesting opponents ask themselves a few questions to avoid looking “completely and utterly out of touch.”
“Because once you start chipping away and you say, 'Well, that guy committed a terrible crime, not going to let him vote. Well, that person did that. Not going to let that person vote,' you're running down a slippery slope,” Sanders said when asked directly about Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
Ocasio-Cortez argued that people should consider how the prison system is unjust to minorities when discussing taking away their voting rights. “We ‘shouldn’t’ incarcerate for nonviolent offenses, we ‘shouldn’t’ have school-to-prison pipelines, we ‘shouldn’t’ sentence POC more than white people for similar crimes...but we do. We’re so eager to talk about punishment, but correcting our injustices is ‘controversial,’” said Ocasio-Cortez.
During her own CNN Town Hall, Kamala Harris, another 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, said the conversation on whether incarcerated felons should have the right to vote was worth having.

We won’t let 18 year olds buy a beer because they are not old enough to make decisions about liquor. But we’ll let a murderer decide on our next president? Dumb
Nor did AOC include murders and rapists in this. She knows the difference. And people call her an idiot.
If you think a dime bag is punishable enough of a crime to lose your right to vote, you got deeper issues. A huge amount of people wouldn't be able to vote. And you are ignoring the fact that they are trying to get non violent drug offenders out of jail.
I can agree on that. But what about mass murders and people on death row? When they have paid their debt to society they deserve to have their voting rights restored. But not everyone in jail and not while they are in jail.
SOUNDS LIKE SHE KNOWS WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT . , . JUST SAYIN
Your all on dope if you think people lose their right to vote over a dime bag. It’s a VIOLATION of the law. Not even a misdemeanor let alone a FELONY. You Democrats are dumber than you look
Yes
Thanks for reading the same book I'm reading..no wonder you are SPECIAL! Let's WORK TOGETHER and GET some RESULTS for SOMETHING,... every EFFORT is a GOOD START... we're floundering, near the quicksand.
There is a bigger picture for us to see. When convicts or former convicts are forbidden to vote, it also means there is less chance for them to re-integrate back into society. It means being condemned forever. No jobs, no respect means going back to more crime.
yes
No he should not be in prison for a dime bag of anything. Stop the madness.
Let’s see if prisoners can even vote for a good Warden!
I don’t think you should have the right to vote in prison.
Should a murderer?
No.
Yes...after time served I think they should get back the right to vote
You are mixed up. Your quarrel is with the Justice sentencing guidelines. Or do you want to draw arbitrary boundaries between 'dime bag' criminals and Boston bomber terrorists?
Yes, yes they should not (and currently don’t ) have the right to vote. (And shouldn’t in the future. )
I think she also thought that would be a federal charge. 🤦🏼♀️
Neo marxists...and a dumb one at that.
thats only a misdemeanor and they don't
They don’t. That’s not a felony.
If you mean does his dope habit prohibit him from making logical decisions, then, No.
Usually they won’t. If they are a drug dealer they should.
Um a non-violent person with a dime bag wouldn't. That's a misdemeanor weight anywhere unless you are on parole or probation or have several prior offenses.
Dime bag isn’t a felony. idiots like her will assure 4 more years of trump. Dems can’t get out of their own way
They don’t.
They don’t.
