Obama leans into midterm elections with $25,000-a-ticket fundraiser

Obama will headline a fundraiser for the Senate Democrats' campaign arm in New York City on Sept. 8, Axios reported.The report comes as some nonpartisan election analysts have predicted that Democrats’ odds of maintaining a Senate majority in November have improved and the number of seats Republicans could gain in the House may be shrinking.

A president’s party historically loses congressional seats in a midterm election, and Republicans had hoped to make the cycle a referendum on President Joe Biden, whose approval ratings are low, and rising consumer costs. But Senate candidate and campaign quality problems are plaguing some key swing state contests for Republicans, a trend Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell recently acknowledged when he told reporters in his home state of Kentucky, “I think there's probably a greater likelihood the House flips than the Senate."

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee fundraiser will feature a"conversation" with Obama and Sen. That event, hosted by the group’s leader, former Attorney General Eric Holder, will be held in Martha’s Vineyard.
