Oak Cliff's Over the Bridge Arts is presenting ‘Younger than Dirt,' a new dance-theater piece that takes on the aging process.

Over the Bridge Arts founder Lori Sundeen Soderbergh enlisted seven other performer-choreographers to create the new dance-theater piece.

Charlotte Crawford is one of eight dancer-choreographers involved in "Younger Than Dirt," a new work about the aging process from Oak Cliff's Over the Bridge Arts.after deciding to color her hair white during the pandemic. It would be easier to take care of as she avoided going to the salon. A shock at first, her new style grew on her and she’s kept it.

“It was interesting to let go of the work and expense involved in trying to look younger. It was freeing,” Soderbergh says in a phone interview before the premiere of her multi-genre performing arts piece riffing on aging and the colloquialism “older than dirt.”After going white, she noticed people began treating her differently. Friends she ran into didn’t recognize her. Service workers ignored her. And doors were held open for her more frequently.

There are older models and women who try new things and become icons at a very late stage. There are still a lot of traditional ideas out there.

Tamitha Curiel and Charlotte Crawford are part of the cast and creators of "Younger Than Dirt," a new dance-theater work from Oak Cliff's Over the Bridge Arts. In this tragicomic vignette about dating and mating, they wear brightly colored tutus around their waists and heads.Soderbergh considered including men, but decided to stick to what she knew best. She came to the conclusion that what women go through is different than what happens to men.
