- U.S. Democratic presidential contender Beto O’Rourke told a conference of black activists on Wednesday that he would back a study of reparations for descendants of slaves, as 2020 White House candidates began to make their pitch for African-American support.
The three Democrats, the first of a dozen 2020 presidential candidates who will speak to the conference over the next three days, also backed criminal justice reforms including the legalization of marijuana and clearing the records of non-violent drug offenders. “Until all Americans understand that civil rights are not just those victories but the injustices that have been visited and continue to be visited on people, we will never get the change we need to live up to the promise of this country,” he said.
The historically diverse 2020 Democratic field, including black, Hispanic and openly gay candidates as well as a record six women, is tackling an array of issues of interest in the African-American community following the first decline in their turnout in 20 years in 2016. That was a key contributor to Democrat Hillary Clinton’s stunning loss to Trump.
Sharpton said not everyone would agree with the candidates on everything, but support for voting rights, healthcare access and criminal justice reform were “not negotiable for us in the civil rights movement.”

Restitution instead via zero taxation for descendants of those who were made slaves simply because of the color of their skin. ZeroTaxation for any corporations they create or, themselves for the next 500years. Majority ownership required of course. welfare is slavery.
As a black person. The time for reparations was immediately after the freeing of the slaves. Stop the wars, make minimum wage keep up with inflation, medicare for all, 70% top marginal tax rate, keep high paying union jobs in America we'll call it even.
Luckily the majority of Americans hate panderers. Beto’s appeal to radicals is less about his policy prowess & more about his weak character in acquiescing to mob rule.
Just how much money can one politician promise to give away before someone calls him on his bull$hit? And how stupid can people be to believe him, or K. Harris or E. Warren or Cortez?
Beto is low bet for upcoming elections. The guy is a flake.
How about reparations for native Americans, or Jewish americans or Irish americans or mormon americans or mexican americans? Why not just give every american a house, a car and a guaranteed sustainable income and a paid PhD education and free healthcare? Get serious!

Of course “Beta” will try to buy votes. It’s not his money he wants to give away.

Dems appeal to Black activists: 'GIVE EM FREE THANGS'
Any Democratic candidate could show up and say “I pay my taxes” and be instantly better than the incumbent.
Any reparation plan of that nature smack too much of 'forty acres and a mule to me.' There are better ways to address the issue with more long benefits for more.
See the problem with reparations is, if black people are getting free money , shit I am brown black. Point being people will find a way to abuse system like food stamps in NYC.
