NYC becomes the 1st major US city to make jail phone calls free.

New York is now providing free phone calls from jails, making it the first major U.S. city to eliminate fees for inmate calls, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday.

"For too long have people in custody faced barriers to basic aspects of everyday life," de Blasio said."With free phone calls, we're eliminating one of those barriers and ensuring that people in custody have the opportunity to remain connected to their lawyers, families and support networks that are so crucial to re-entry into one's community."

Under the new rules, inmates can make free calls totaling 21 minutes every three hours to anywhere in the United States. The city Department of Correction is installing additional phone lines to handle the expected increased volume of calls.

I am opening a NYC phone sex company stat.

Why not. Democrats new slogan is free free free free free free free free free free free

Next BY will be putting criminals in 5star hotels.

And So It Begins...

Taxpayers pay. That does not make it Free

Looks like he is calling in his vote 🗳

“Lawmakers in Connecticut are considering a bill to provide free calling for inmates in the state's prison system. “

So we pay but criminals don’t? Good job boZo BilldeBlasio

So the phone companies has pissed off the prisons. Lol Only reason I can think of for cutting them out of all the money being made off the backs of prisoners.

If free phone calls restore a basic aspect to life then why do I have to pay for phone calls? Who is paying the phone companies for all these free calls, more taxes?😱😡😡😡

Prison in this country is a BUSINESS FIRST. Remember that.

Telephones are a huge racket in jail. $2.50 for a local call and $45 for a 20 minute call elsewhere. We all know how cheap calls are, but the real crooks are grabbing money by the handfuls.

Inmates are used for slave labor and overcharged for everything it's a disgusting system. Need to just chop off fingers of criminals quick effective and cheap. Also a nice reminder

The money lost from these phone calls will have to be taken from other programs within their corrections system. Although this sounds nice in theory it’s going to cause a huge gap in their balance sheets. Good luck with this.

'Free'

Of course let the taxpayer pay !

Free or taxpayer funded?

The left obviously doesn't understand what the word punishment means. They want them to allow inmates to vote while being as well. Lastly they want to eliminate cash bail for minor offenses.

When Prescribing Cures For 'Overpriced' Drugs, Government's First Duty Is Do No HarmElected officials and regulators are rushing forward with ideas to artificially reduce the cost of prescription drugs without first understanding the complexities of the drug development and pricing process, a shortcoming that could have troubling implications for American health care. The federal government should be shut down. They don't care about the people just look at what they do to veterans. A doctors 1st duty is to do no harm, realDonaldTrump 1st duty is to pretend he is running the USA not “Javanka” In my opinion, I believe our government does good things. Some things like, eminent domain; I disagree that the government should be able to do that and some cases and it's not fair to the owner.
