For the first time since the program's rollout, NYC is guaranteeing specific funding for Fair Fares—which offers MetroCards at a 50% discount to low-income New Yorkers—ensuring the program will be funded in future budgets, instead of negotiated annually.

the non-profit advocacy group that helped establish Fair Fares, had previously proposed that eligibility should be increased to twice the federal poverty levels so more people can participate.

David Jones, CEO of the Community Service Society and a board member of the MTA, said he's glad the city is committing to the program, but also said in his statement, "The Fair Fares program is a lifeline for low-income New Yorkers struggling with transit affordability. Our research shows that awareness of the program is low citywide, with only 35 percent of eligible New Yorkers taking advantage of it.

Black gay priest in NYC challenges Catholicism from withinAmong Catholic priests in the United States, few are African American and few are openly gay. Wtf are you talking about Catholic priests can be gay but they must keep their sexual actions private just as heterosexual priests must keep theirs private also. Got that. There is no bigotry here. A priest's sex and lifestyle is not something they are supposed to be telling us about. Oh people, why do you celebrate the sins of Sodom and Gomorrah? Why do you hate the commandments of God? For it is written in the Torah, that man shall not lay with mankind as with woman-kind! And the same of women with women. God will bring His judgement upon this abomination.

Why is it the only time this paper writes a story about the Catholic Church, it features someone who disagrees, wants to change or otherwise is in conflict with the Church’s beliefs? Do better.
