Nuggets flip script in Game 3, crush Timberwolves at Target Center

Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said pregame he expected the Denver Nuggets, facing a 2-0 series deficit, to give them their best shot in Game 3 of their Western Conference semifinal series Friday night at Target Center in downtown Minneapolis.

In a lot of ways, Game 3 was very reminiscent of Game 2, just with roles reversed. This time, it was the Nuggets who were the ones who set the tone early, and they kept the Timberwolves out of rhythm offensively with pesky defense. The Wolves shot 43% from the field and 30% from 3-point range. And this time, the Timberwolves were the ones boiling over in frustration in Game 3. Naz Reid picked up a technical foul in the third quarter and both Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Kyle Anderson picked up technicals in the fourth quarter with the game well out of reach with 5 minutes, 54 seconds left.In another similarity to Game 2, the score was even the same after one quarter of play — 28-20 — just with the Nuggets holding the eight-point advantage.

Murray also didn’t do it alone. All of the Nuggets’ starting five finished in double figures, including Nikola Jokic, who nearly posted a triple-double with 24 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists.The Timberwolves did make a few runs. After falling behind by 20 points in the second quarter, Minnesota went on a 7-0 run capped by a Mike Conley 3-pointer. But following a timeout, the Nuggets immediately answered with a 6-0 run of their own to push their lead back to 19.
