Airlines have known for years their carbon footprint is unsustainable. Cutbacks are expected to save the planet.

The 52 billion dollars we handed out to the airlines was supposed to cover pilot pay and retention. What did these airline companies do with our money?

Raise the retirement age to 67.

My son has been working towards an airline career for a year. He’s lucky to be able to work as a flight instructor while living at home so he can pay his student loans. He has about half the flight hours required, so maybe a year away.

There is a shortage of licensed aircraft maintenance professionals as well.

They did it to themselves. Airlines been cutting and cutting for years. Paying peanuts to new hires, union busting, mass-layoff cycles. I have no sympathy for an industry that shot itself in the foot like this.

Pilots. Used to be extremely well paid. It was really hard to get a job as a comercial pilot. Wonder what changed?

And maybe if we wouldn’t have to go into massive amounts of debt to learn new skills you wouldn’t have such shortages in certain skilled positions. But what do I know?
