Republicans/Texas doesn't know how to make their state safer but only to either arrest you or kick you out. I wouldn't want to live there. There's nothing to do down their either.

Soooo only people approved by the Republican Party are allowed charitable bail. Got it

Texas Republicans have a new policy idea: keep people in jail even if they're innocent.

The devil went down to GA but then saw Texas as a better expansion of Hell. Texas will be the modern Eastern Bloc before long.

This is a good thing, right ?

Just so I'm understanding this correctly. Texas State Attorney Ken Paxton is out on $35,000 bail for 3 felony charges. Ted Cruz insighted an Insurrection and tried to over throw our government. But they what to stop nonprofit from bailing out people with non violent crimes. Wow

Hmph… who

What! The judge sets bail and if somebody puts the money up the person is released. It doesn't matter who pays. Bail was met. Period. That shit will get laughed out of court. Morons.

Seems about white

fuckfreedom

Jesus Effing Christ.

Why do Republicans hate poor people so much?

Texas: where only poor people get punished for their crimes.

“We don’t want poor people to get out on bail” -Texas GOP

Texas GOP continuing the tRump narrative - when you think they can’t go any lower, they find new depths of depravity and plain mean spiritedness. 🙄

Jails make money from how many they have incarcerated. More people, more money.

Color of money, Texas prefers bloody red money

Texas Republicans are the Florida of Republicans.

It seems that Texas could simplify their penal code: White people: Innocent, can do no wrong. Minorities: Guilty even before charged for everything they do that annoys White people.

Once again. The cruelty is the point.

Government of the people, by the people and for the people! That law doesn’t fit the bill!

Texas Republicans are dangerous NAZIS.

Trying to suppress protests much?

This basically just keeps the system going with broken families and losing source of income.

The problem with this is if they are so habitual and such bad people that they needed to be kept in jail indefinitely, the judge would deny bail and the prosecuted would’ve made a good case for it.

I wonder how these lawmakers feel about Kyle Rittenhouse.

Do Texas repubs do anything to actually help people?

Because GOP, of course

The GOP is really coming into its own, isn’t it.

Wonder how many of our tax dollars will be spent defending litigation against this devious strategy for voter suppression.

There are so many pieces in this story that are appalling.

Charitable funds should not be used to post bail. Only people rich enough on their own should be allowed to post bail.

Why is bail even a thing? Why do we have a separate method of dispensing justice for people who have the means to pay for bail than for people who can't?

Just like in HK to prevent protestors from getting bail money or good lawyer to defend their case from crazy meth HK cops.

I can't help but thinking that Texas Republicans gather regularly specifically to discuss what hateful thing they can do next.

Texas Republicans: We're just mean, mean people.

Defund npr

Incarceration seems like the perfect form of voter suppression.

Why is it that Republicans always talk about freedom but are they are the first ones to restrict freedom? The only freedom the GQP believe in is their right to control everyone else and that a called dictatorship.

How else are they gonna keep all those uppity blacks and Mexicans locked up if decent people keep coming along and bailing them out? Don't MESS with Texas. (that's for their pedo uncles to do when he's all liquored up after the Cowboys game)

They really are just horrible group of people.

The Texas attack on poor and minority people continues. Texas is only for rich white men.

Why do these old white guys keep hating on people?

These people are just plain EVIL. 😡

Small government my ass

Um, let's see how to hate more people today?

So much for freedom. My fucking money I do what I want with it.

Why do we argue when TX says it wants to secede? Let them

Texas, it's a whole other third world country.

So much for “money is free speech”

Remember that this bill's topic is part of what GregAbbott_TX considers an emergency situation.

Aren’t judges supposed to be the ones preventing bail for repeat violent offenders? That is why they are judges; to judge cases individually.

I really hope someone is working on getting these guys in jail! In my fantasies they would even be in the common population, in Texas of course

“Paxton himself is currently out on $35,000 bond while awaiting trial on securities fraud charges.”

There’s money to be made on prisons and the semblance of “tough on crime,” so these republicans’ actions are symptomatic of larger ills in our society

Wow, these people have lost their minds.

who are the 104 likes 🙄

I can’t find enough non-vulgar words to tweet a response to this kind of right wing horse stuff.

I feel like the politicians who claim to want the government to have little interference in citizens lives, is trying to control its citizens an awful lot.

That's about the only thing I've seen them do right and I'm sure there is a catch.

These people have that same cold-blooded nastiness that flowed in the veins of slave owners that fought tooth and nail to keep slavery alive. With grand talk and supposed Christian values they don’t know what love is and are steeped in the hatred that motivates them.

Of course 🙄

Seems like their always legislating to restrict their constituents instead of helping them succeed... 🤔

I do find it problematic that people can loot and riot and these bail funds set them free to do it again. Since no one they know or care about put up the money it’s little to no incentive to get them to show back up

Who’s invested into the wardens lobby?

Why do they care who people help? If the government sets a bail and someone pays it then they go out on bail.

I’m struggling to see how this is anything other racially motivated class warfare

Those all seem to be excessive bail amounts for non-flight risks.

Leave it to the GOP to take an asinine stance like this. Not only is this to benefit their party, but to enrich their masters who make money off of this guilty until proven innocent system, with incarceration for profit. More corporate welfare, more abuse of power.

Figures, make it hard for citizens typical republican ploy.

Texas (R) Gov guys 'Hmmm, how could we be more evil? C'mon. We're not even as bad as we could be. Think big!' Ffs

The racism knows no bounds

Can we do that for rich folks too?

WWJD

why?!?

Can't be having those political prisoners getting bailed out of the Bastille. But just give money to people to bail them out. Or will Texas make it illegal for individuals to bail out other individuals?

I think the argument could be made that charitable bail funds are a form of speech just like campaign donations in the case of Citizens United.

👍😀👍

Can we just encourage Texas to succeed? Well keep Austin but you can take Arkansas.

If they're not going to let people pay their cash bail, why not eliminate it?

Do they ever propose any legislation to help people. Because you can't always hurt one group w/o it affecting the rest eventually.

This is cruelty for the sake of it. Sounds about Republican.

The GQP in Texas are satanic.

Dystopia, thy name is Texas.

Of course they are

I mean, anything but a thing that might save lives, ya know? The whole klansplaining, spreadneck, sentient jars of expired mayonnaise vibe isn’t it, y’all. Godddddddd. I guess when they said “y’all means all” what they really meant was “FUCK THEM KIDS.” DeltaVariant PowerGrid

At some point, Abbott and the TX legislature decided to see how many provisions of the US Constitution and federal law they could violate in the same calendar year.

This stops charities from helping whiny civil servants who deserted their jobs. Love it.

This is the most classist thing I’ve ever seen. Probably racist too but most definitely classist as fuck. This is also the state that voted their Governor’s powers down to less than their Lt. Governor simply because they didn’t like him. 🤷🏻‍♂️

How Christian of them! Bless their soul!

Rotten to the core.

Why? Just why?

Well if course they are. I'm wondering if they realize how short sighted that could be 🤣

This proposal is obscene.

Anything to inflict pain and cruelty on as many people as possible

They don't want poor people getting help

Ain’t that some shit

Should: be ending cash bail and the overuse of jailing. Actually: working to put more folks in jail, and increasing the difficulty for them to get out. What a dumpster fire of a government.
