Let's hope they teach Japanese history 1880-1945. This was one of the most brutal and sadistic regimes ever to walk the earth. They unleashed death and destruction against the US, China, Russia, India, and Indonesia. Excellent context for the internment camps.

Teaching any history at all in K-12 is a huge plus. A fair representation must include late-19th and 20th century Japan which had one of the most brutal, sadistic military regimes of all time. Required reading: Rape of Nanking, and all the atrocities in the Pacific WWII.

How insulting.

As an Illinoisan, I am proud of the work Governer Pritzker has done. He caught a lot of flack for his actions when the pandemic hit but he did what he could to try to keep us safe.

They're going to need an entire course on Shohei Ohtani. He is rewriting the baseball history books.

Shouldn't they be teaching Indigenous history also?

There is a large Polish community in Chicago, I wonder why Illinois is not required to teach Polish American history?

It’s not even a course! It’s just *a unit* to be taught within the framework of typical social studies curriculum. So all the racists can calm DF down.

…how they were so good they developed quotas for them at the Ivys.

Ok, mmmm. I would like to know how they were enslaved and forced to come to the USA, freed, and then had to endure hundreds of years of Jim Crow and institutional racism...I'll wait.

Just make sure a potential Trumpian GOP Illinois Congress doesn't eliminate the requirement. They will surely file next a 'discrimination' lawsuit to preserve their white version of American history.

That’s wonderful. Frederick Douglass would approve… but better not mention that. It’s a little too CRT.

Are they doing the same for Native Americans and African Americans?

But black Americans? 🤔

This is fine and good, I'm all for it, but is anyone else starting to visualize high school stretching into people's 30's? (Small attempt at humor)

How special. I'm sure every other group will jump on the bandwagon and demand their little piece of the curriculum. The American Revolution will need to be dropped to make room for Zulu history.

How about Irish-American, German-American, Short-people- American, Blonde-American? Or we can just chill out and teach American history . . .

Innovative schools would have Asian American history, Mexican American history, Chicano history, Hispanic American, African American history. Which is American history.

I just love that conservatives will lose their minds.
