Exclusive: NPR ignored an engineer's prior warning, and obtained minutes of a 2018 meeting in which a Surfside official told residents their building was 'in very good shape.' Engineer vows legal action against NPR for injecting itself into a headline which was in very bad shape.
This is in direct contradiction to the numerous articles where the residents were told it was is serious danger, needed 7.1mm in repairs in 2018, 9.1mm in repairs, & finally just 75 days ago- 15mm in repair. The residents and the HOA Board going back n forth about the assessment

Do you think anyone could predict the almost total building falling in seconds? These condos were owned or rented out by individuals,they weren’t leased units-they/HOA knew of issues and were already going to pay the millions to fix it regardless of this one person’s statement.

None of the reported issues immediately threatened structure from the surveyors. Look for the cause elsewhere than cosmetic damage.
Gdad1 HOA boardmembers likely decided the 2018 report was inaccurate due to negative impact on resale values. The 4/4 penthouse fetched $2.9M just last month, & wouldn't be suprised if PH owner was on the board that decided to stay mum to owners. Guilty are board members who then sold!

Engineer consultant report said: no hazards to residents. Repairs like doors, windows, patio, pool, garage; not done properly and rundown for a pricey condo. What is meant by 'structural' is that you have to replace more than superficial tiles. NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FOUNDATION.

C'mon NPR, the structure of that headline is terrible. Try this: NPR obtained minutes of a 2018 meeting in which a Surfside official told residents their building was in 'very good shape', despite an engineer's prior warning to the contrary.
Devastatingly, 'greed & power' always repeat the same stock phrase, 'Safety is our 1 priority.'
It appears the larger issue is that there may be other properties within the jurisdiction of the Surfside city's building code that have also been ignored.
