A new study finds that body-worn cameras reduce the use of force by police — and that the benefits for society and police departments outweigh the costs of the cameras.

Police check in for work turn on their cameras once on duty. They should never be able to turn recorders on & off. Gotta go ten-1? Take a personal moment? Dispatch handles their request. On & off shld b a separate entity.

A reduction?! That’s terrifying, if true.

No shit

A body-worn camera is only good if it is kept on.

Police: “I forgot to turn my body-cam on,” “my body-cam was off,” “my body-cam malfunctioned,” “my body-cam fell off,” “my body-cam footage was lost,” “I forgot to upload my body-cam footage.”

Make inskeepnpr wear one.

Duh.

I wonder what consequences for excessive use of force would do?

It doesn’t matter lol we literally have a video of someone stabbing somebody and ppl r still crying

UROCKlive1 It cameras and less camouflage gear

it doesnt help when the public isnt allowed to freely see these vidoes when police brutalize the public

We’ll be the judge of that! Hold police men or women personally accountable for their actions—after all they’re sworn as law abiding PEACE officers. No more police misconduct settlements from taxpayer $. Let the police man or woman pay out of own pocket or from own pension

Except when it doesn't...for example: Chauvin in MN

lol, that's not good. So it seems to follow that w/o body cams they'd be pitbulls.

Well duh

Talk about the fact how many police departments are funded by city & county boards but still refuse to order them often stating back orders, delays or insufficient funding.

The camera's should be made without a way to delete or edit a photo or file.

Abolition would completely eliminate use of force, plus then, you don't have to spend any money on police body cameras

that it not surprising, if civilians knew they were being recorded before they did something like resisting , or other crimes, there would be a reduction there as well.

Eliminating the doctrine of qualified immunity & enacting tort liability laws in each state would be even cheaper & a more effective deterrent. You can’t turn off strict liability tort laws like body cameras have been way too frequently.

Well yeah both parties know they are being recorded so that should keep everyone on better behavior.

Every sworn LEO should be required by federal law to wear a body camera. Not only do they prevent use of force incidents, but they are also crucial for accountability and accuracy in use of force incidents.

I think politicians these days should have a body worn camera too lol

If this is what police act like when they know the camera is on ... only trump can save them.

Bih, where!!!

Operation Terminate the Terrorist police Pigs.

Americans already possess the technology that makes it possible to abolish police patrols. Now that cellphones are everywhere, we can change the law to limit cops’ power of arrest to 9|11 phone call complaints
