Probably the second dumbest post I've seen all day.

Yikes

SHIT THE F UP. THE WORLD HAS GONE MAD

Ok, so in fairness, can we please start getting equal representation in all professional sports please? NBA, NFL, MLB, SOCCER, all of it Its time we do so, as we make adjustments to everything else in the U.S. Equality in all things I say

Admit it, NPR & PBS: You have race fetish, & it fostered this 'Red Guard' climate, & blinds you to more urgent bigotries- gender, age. Today, you aired a doctor expressing joy at not facing 'elderly ppl who don't know they're sneezing in ur face.' Replace elderly w/black. Get it?

You've got to be kidding me? How about you give all of PBS to minority film makers who feel unattended to We will take Ken Burns on to another format or platform. Forget airing or selecting the best work out there, let's definitely select everything by what color their skin is

Make better documentaries! He did a brilliant series on the Civil War and Jazz and explicitly noted in his Country Music series that the roots of it came from African music. Anyone that is trying to make this about race needs to go back to film school!

Not even 'progressive and diverse' PBS has never had a Mexican American reporter.

Even though Mexican Americans have been here for hundreds of years and their Indigenous ancestors for thousands of years they are still treated as insignificant and invisible by Hollywood and TV producers.

Leave Ken Burns alone but feel free to go after the other ones who might be getting an unfair advantage. He has earned his stay, even if he had a advantageous start. The man is a staple in the field for a reason.

Don’t give a rat’s behind if the folks are purple, worship Klingons and are multi-gendered....definitely will not waste valuable time on statins with sub-quality productions.

You don’t get on top by being elite . You get there through excellence

Well done!

'Woke' progressives are the worst. They are exactly what they preach against and project on others; hateful and racist.

1/2 IOW Beyond Inclusion started a pbs petition and pressured other artists into signing it under the threat of being cancelled for being racist. 'Beyond Inclusion bipocmakers, a collective of non-fiction creators, executives and industry figures led by individuals who are...

This is like going after Andy Warhol for getting too much attention for modern art.

Look at PBS numbers. 40% of producers and films about POC

Oh, for heaven’s sake... Ken Burns has earned the prestige he has in the documentary community. Try explaining the criteria that PBS uses to delegate programming dollars. Is it unfair?

KenBurns is an amazing storyteller who brings to life racism’s ugly presence. PBS thanks for always airing him! Minorities would be good too!

I see, as usual, most comments are from people that didn’t read the article 🤦🏽‍♂️

This is sick you put people on tc because of their talent not their color. Otherwise it would be racist

Or maybe his stuff is just that great.

There is this thing called talent

And there are entirely too many actors with hair playing bald characters.

The revolution consumes its own.

So....now we’re going after Ken Burns? Got it.

Burns has power to greenlight anything PBS, that is not something to cancel, but harness in creating diversity. Spielberg as executive producer can launch anyone's directorial career. KenBurns should do same for a diverse next generation of filmmakers. Pick me plz..

Anything that can be done to keep Ken Burn's stupid hair off my tv, I'm all in!

I could not disagree more. Of all the filmmakers to single out — Ken Burns? Seriously? This cannot stand. This must not stand. Ken Burns has more than earned the right — he of all people. Goddamit, people, get a grip. Just. Get. A. Grip. PBS NewsHour Poynter MMFA

Ken Burns is just really good at what he does.

WTH? First of all, it is not an either/or situation. And we do have Finding Your Roots, Reconstruction and a whole slew of documentaries about many groups. Ken Burns is a proven winner and it would be frankly stupid to not have his work on PBS.

They must be called out for ignoring colorism and selecting to advocate race and other mainstream obsessions.

Aren't white people still over half of USA population? So why wouldn't the guy who's pretty much the most recognized USA docu filmmaker get great deals? I could understand if they complained about some white nobodies getting such deals, but Ken fricking Burns? lmao

To everyone: in the replies calling this an attempt to 'cancel Ken Burns:' it's okay to admit that you fell for a bait-y headline framing; now read the article!

Gotta love the lib on lib crime.

Ken burns has done more for the popularity of documentaries than anyone, period. To portray him as the bad guy here doesn't help any documentary makers.

BREAKING- Countless would be documentarians with white skin also crying because they don't get paid to make docs for PBS.

Loved Africa's Great Civilizations. What did you think of it...?

Looks like open season on any and all discrimination claim.....whether valid or not.....Starting to mirror ‘the boy who cried wolf’ which is too bad for the claims that are actually valid and nobody’s paying attention anymore.

I have enjoyed every Ken Burns special on PBS. The depth of detail and the years spent are well worth it. PBS should definitely be more inclusive, especially since most of us who watch do NOT have cable. And enjoy all of the channels available such as All Arts.

Caribintelligen U mean the pbs WeR all familiar with? No! But understand NPR not very accommodating of diversity either. They speak it , diversity like so many others... But in practice completely off.

Just stop

I stopped watching his droning documentaries years ago. He long ago mastered the art of the right answer, the right way, etc.

Like MLK said, documentarians should be judged by the color of their skin, NOT by the content of their films!

I can’t wait for the Ken Burns documentary on the submission of this letter by the 140 documentarians. The 8 part series is due to air in 2023.

Now PBS is racist. I assume white people should just stay 🏡 while the 'woke' (whatever the hell that is) ruins everything Open your eyes 🇺🇸, this is becoming a race war

This is too much! It shouldn’t matter what color his skin is he happens to be one of the best artists on the planet! He deserves better then this! Stop it right now! This is shameful! Any person of any race would be smart to use him as a role model regarding his work!

Wasn't it after his doc on the Civil War thaat PBS gave him a multi year deal. ? Just curious

😶

Punishing success, is that a new thing? Good grief

On a positive note. I saw Ken Burns on TV today. It appears that the pandemic has forced Ken Burns to change his hair style

It is curious that Burns’ decision that a topic interests him yields a groundswell of hosannas on how important it is. Hemingway is most recent. Country music is another (also smacks of pc ledger balancing)

Diversity over quality. We are becoming a nation of mediocrity or worse.

Maybe it’s simply about merit?

Wokism is the new racism

But do black NBA players get too much playing time as opposed to non-black players? Because in a world of race equity, skin color needs be proportioned for the viewer's experience.

Oh FFS, the guy is a legend. This is cancel theatre

It’s no depend what color you are, it’s depend how good you are .

WOKENESS

Watch 'Grant Rant 116'

“Univestigated privilege”? First and foremost, what do you think of Burns’ work? We all have the power to investigate his privilege with our own eyes. Why act like Burns is a legacy admission when his resume is a mile long?!

Maybe their PBS affiliate is different than mine, but I think they’re pretty balanced.

Excellent.

I admire and enjoy his work a lot but yes I would agree he cant be the only one Why not use him to greenlight other projects for PBS

Should have seen this coming a long time ago, whine, whine, whine, whine.😢 If someone can do as equally a good a job as Burns then they should do so. Surely no doubt, PBS would oblige them. Broadcast some poorly written and produced documentary and see just how many watch it.🤔

PBS is the most racist network on TV.

So the liberal, far left, woke society wants to cancel Ken Burns. Ken Burns gets a lot of corporate funding through grants! The liberal left never ceases to amaze me! The Civil War, Baseball, & Country Music documentaries of the history of the Republic. Plain Jealousy

The notion that Ken Burns, who is the best documentary maker ever, gets to much time and resources is ridiculous.

WTF, this is like saying that someone who spent a lifetime learning their craft, building their career should stop because they're taking a job from someone with less experience & skill, that the public should not have access to their works.

In all fairness, he has proven his phenomenal skills in documentary storytelling and that is why people watch. they know the quality they will get. He's quite amazing and it took him a long long time to get there and had his own struggles.

I find this disturbing. It's actually possible to advocate for programming of docs by filmmakers of color without targeting Ken Burns, whose body of work is unmatched.

Does Blackside still exist? That was a phenom doc production crew.

Burns is amazing. Feel certain great talents like his, Opera stars, sublime painters, historic composers, are many and varied. Documentary fan here. Ready to watch.

Better headline: “NPR Joins 140 Documentarians to Pressure PBS Into Giving Ken Burns Less Air Time Because He’s White.”. NPR is just activist propaganda now.

Can signed letters finally go out of style in 2021?

Isn't PBS suppose to be Public Broadcasting Are White Men Insecure ?

Very close to shutting off feed

PBS has grown pretty conservative for a 'public' entity.

As someone with a spouse who runs an organization who deals with BIPOC women filmmakers, I've seen first hand that this is a real issue. Seems wrong to blame Ken Burns, it's more the people who enable Ken Burns repeatedly while ignoring other fully capable filmmakers.

Ken Burns is canceled. Sorry folks, but we should’ve seen this coming.

For all free football odds search and join this channel on telegram ( LADSBROKE ) his odds are super accurate

It’s known as the Ken Burns effect...

julieklausner

Ken Burns getting cancelled -- say it ain't so.

Ken Burns is the only reason a lot of people care about documentaries at all. I understand the need for new voices—especially POC, but it’s hard not to give airtime to a proven winner.

We should rewrite the headline “NPR Staff have helped 140 documentarians to sign...”

Ken Burns' career is solid, raise another filmmaker up, there's enough to share.

I have no trouble with the idea of pressuring PBS for greater diversity. But it is not a 'zero sum game' and Burns earned his spot for his excellence. Give others their shot but not at the expense of excellence.

Needs to be about the content not the color.
