'I'm not going to just say yes' 'Stand back and stand by' 'Big protests in D.C. on January 6. Be there. Will be wild!' These were comments from then-President Trump, whose lawyers argue that he 'did not direct anyone to commit lawless actions.'

As a judge once said 'Ignorance of the law is no excuse'

I like that our government is holding a politician to task for the words that they used. Now I would like to see this applied to all the politicians who used similar words or downplayed statements during the riots/lawlessness from this past summer during the BLM protests.

Impeachment is dead. 45 Senators think it’s unconstitutional

He didn’t. Nothing in those quotes indicate any direction of violence or lawlessness. This is yet another waste of time.

Trump made a lot of comments. 20% are just gibberish. 60% are self congratulatory or personal complaints. Most of the rest are just lies, 1/2 truths, insults, & promises. None of it was ‘planning an insurrection’ or directing people to commit crime tho. Least not in that speech.

There was nothing theoretical about ALL of this. It was fanning flaming he knew were already lit. We all knew. He had to know. Why else was good support called off?

I wonder what dirt trump has on the GOP that they would ignore his actions

HOLD. HIM. ACCOUNTABLE. GOP: GROW A BACKBONE!!!

None of those quotes says anything about violence. He did say: 'I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.'

Did not direct anyone?! He publicly told the VP to illegally interfere with the election results. That should be treason at the least. Those words incited the mob to try and seek out the VP and murder him.

Soooo hitler could have just said that he didn’t tell anyone of his people to do the atrocities they did because hey, he didn’t actually turn on the showers right?

Watch 'Try Guys Debunk COVID Vaccine Conspiracies With Dr. Fauci' on YouTube

Trump's defense is disingenuous. Too many Republican senators have already made up their minds, making a short term political bet. But Trump and his mob will be out for their scalps soon enough. The true conservatives have one last chance to not be devoured by Trump. Too late?

At the very least he's responsible for the US military soldiers/national guard being there. When 'stand back, stand by' or to fight like hell for your country comes out of the commander-in-chiefs mouth, that isn't sarcasm, it's an order.

And that is your proof he did it

He directed people to commit lawless actions every day from Nov 3rd to Jan 6th and the only thing that shut his big damn mouth is the realization that he crossed the line along with action finally taken by the platforms he used to proliferate his lies.

If this were a criminal trial and not political theatre it’s still going to be a long shot to prove Trump instigated the Capitol Insurrection based on words alone.

He must have been coached by interested parties to use language that encouraged violent action without sounding like it, or in a way that could not be proven. He's simply too stupid to have come up with that himself.

trump tried anything to stay in power He used his base as his own army then tries to say he didn’t command them. He knew all along that they would do whatever he said. His words incited. He needs to be held responsible

So Trump’s attorneys think everyone is stupid?

If this were a court of law, but this is a political function and he clearly has been calling for violence for years against opponents, the press, etc.

Here’s the question- why did trump hold the rally on January 6th? Not the 5th or the 4th or over a weekend? He said “Let’s March to the Capitol” during his rally speech. What more proof do you need that he planned the insurrection?

it's important to remember it wasn't just Dotard Donnie. Rudy Colludy, Jr and Mo' Brooks also spoke and played a role in getting the mob amped up

No one with any brains or sense of logic thinks Trump is innocent of desecrating the Capitol killing g 5 putting a sword thru the❤of democracy Those who will not convict him r complicit in his actions and all have blood on their hands

More evidence that there are lawyers out there that will argue practically anything, especially if there’s money in it. GOPComplicitTraitors SenateTrial

Whenever Trump, Republicans, Trump’s lawyers or conservative talking heads say something that immediately makes us think, “how stupid do they think we are?” ; it’s clear from the reactions of his supporters that they’re not talking to us.

Let's not forget 'Fine people on both sides' which signaled former President Trump condoned the actions, behaviors & the violence which ultimately resulted in the murder of Heather Heyer.

Giuliani: Let's have trial by combat! Mindless supporters: iTs jUsT a mEtApHoR!!

Grasping at straws at best. I really think this will hurt midterm elections. That and all of these lop off the head executive orders.

NPR looking a lot like CNN with only certain words and fake news

You guys should be reporting on what SethAbramson is uncovering about Insurrection Day.

Why didn’t they prosecute him when he said those things then?

You had radically charged language to a pretty much 'brainwashed' group of Americas willing to do anything to 'uphold the country', it doesn't get better than this, does it?
