In the new year, hospitals must now post information they've long sought to obscure: the actual prices they negotiate with insurers and the discounts they offer cash-paying customers. But health policy experts disagree on what that will mean for patients.

There should be. Why would the price be so exorbitant without insurance, that people could go bankrupt? This move just might constrain the damn insurance companies and profit making hospitals.

This seems like a good thing. It is ridiculous that the same procedure can cost relative pennies for a Medicaid patient and then be 10x or greater for the uninsured. Hopefully the uninsured won’t be so taken advantage of as a result.

It won’t include the ER doc fee, radiologist fee, diagnostics, etc etc

Thank you realDonaldTrump

And let's not forget to mention the poor souls who fall into the ever widening gap of not having insurance nor cash reserves to negotiate. They take the full hit. itsnotright

We need a menu of services with prices. Enough of predatory practices. One never knows what is going to be the bill. Ridiculous! Then, you are presented a bill 10x inflated

Yet, one thing remains the same: it’s all super confusing and the hospital bill makes no sense

Here's 2 examples of how this could go. TV companies see each other's prices and adjust to be lower so they can sell more TVs. Car dealerships see each other's prices and then write additional contact fees or clauses for you to pay more. My guess for this is the latter.

Oh no that sucks.

this is terrible news Merry Christmas))

INSURANCE COMPANIES SHOULD NOT BE DECIDING PATIENT TREATMENT MedicareForAll M4All

How about we stop letting insurance companies control the prices? Dr: I'm prescribing you Synthroid. Ins: We'll only cover generic. 😡🤦‍♀️

Not enough. Our entire medical profession needs to be torn down and rebuilt. No more massive corperationfor-profit hospitals and paying $11 for a fucking aspirin.

We need single payer healthcare

NPR Cookie Consent and Choices“Show me the manner in which a nation cares for its dead and I will measure with mathematical exactness the tender mercies of its people, their respect for the laws of the land, and their loyalty to high ideals' It was beautiful beyond words to a point I want to go there and see it if allowed. I’m watching all the pre-inaugural stuff 😭 a President who has lost 3 (wife, 2 children) has got to have the empathy within themselves to guide this nation past all this death.
