New research finds that young girls and boys have 'indistinguishable' math abilities — contradicting the idea that men largely dominate STEM fields because their brains are wired that way.

maximromanov Children are same. Difference is how parents teach skills. Parents who take time and teach have kids who grow intellectual greatness faster by having parental involvement.

The truth is: your teacher makes all the difference in the world. Some make math easy to understand, others in too large of classes can't reach their minds+find many too embarrassed to ask questions,as few parents can't even do the math. They think they won't ever need it anyway.

Could have asked....any woman. Literally any woman and would have saved all that funding.

Truth.

Umm duh?

Hmmm. Interesting. So is it envirnmentdrivenSMU622

The news story is that this is even a story.

3-10 year olds? Only 103? So many questions about this study. More research is needed.

We know.

eclaireoh And this phenomenon is likely a very large part of the cause.

The type of person who holds that opinion is also probably elitist about STEM being the supreme field, and so is just being unapologetically and blatantly sexist.

It's between your ears not your legs what really matter, why is so difficult for Liberals to grasp?

If that's true then how come boys go to Jupiter to get more stupider?

Who has been spreading this 'idea', NPR? Was 1972 running around talking smack about girls again? What decade do you think it is?

Duh, and/or of course

I am not surprised. In college, many women told me they only got in because they were female. These same women often got the highest grades in very challenging STEM majors. Many did laps around the men academically. I see the same phenomenon at many other universities too.

It’s never been about ability, but about interest in math. Research shows the more social stability a society has, women tend to not go into STEM jobs, instead going to jobs with more social interactions.

Gentic markers give predispositions to academics as well as disease. Females have slightly less arm strength, and hips for childbirth? Same unseen physiological differences give an advantage from millions of years of doing the same roles and tuning thought processing efficiently

So, girls are just lazy then?

This is what happens when you mischaracterize an argument to make a claim of sexism, then start to believe your lie.

No serious person had that “idea.” The dominant idea is that men and women differ in preferences, not ability.

A psychologist observing in my PreK classroom told me women’s brains weren’t wired for math activities. He didn’t know I have a graduate degree in chemistry and a minor in math. He was shocked when I messed up his theory.

I’m a witness. My daughter earned a math and computer science degree from Georgetown STEM has no gender preference. Raise your daughters to embrace the value of math skills. Math is a key that will open doors she didn’t know existed.

Boys and girls are completely the same.

Did we really need a study to confirm this?

Men are more materialistic and women are more sociable. No one has said that women are less capable for STEM, they just tend to prefer it less than men. This isn’t controversial stuff.

Because both, Girls and Boys are Humans!

imanitrishawn_ The responses by idiot men claiming to be in stem and outraged by this study are exactly why this type of study is necessary. MasculinitySoFragile

Young girls and boys are doing brain dead easy math. maybe test adults?

So girls aren’t different? Men were (and are) just morons who didn’t want to give girls a fair shot?

Wow, way to be decades late to the party ... This is not new news

yawn y’all are so boring

Further proof that the dip-shits at NPR know nothing, but speak with condescension, therefore earning credibility among dummies

39_stephs makes sense. It's more the way we are educated to think maths is a subject for boys, even by our teachers. My physics teacher once said I was just like a boy! ... which was meant to be a compliment

Abilities and interests aren’t the same thing

Yes, because we’re over here in the STEM fields doing elementary school math. Brilliant study.

NPR Choice pageRepublicans want a banana republic so they can maintain their power that they are apparently drunk on. This is in itself a falsehood designed to give unearned credibility to the not credible For example, what does 'vast majority' mean? 1-49% 'uncorroborated' AKA deceit? Also known as insubordination. *feigned shock*😱This will come as no surprise to rational people(the ones actually in touch w/ reality)&those who still refuse to acknowledge, let alone accept, that Donnie is a wholly corrupt, fully divorced from reality, joke of a 'President,' are never going to believe anyways.🤷‍♀️
