After the idea took off on social media, having a teal pumpkin on your doorstep has become a way to signal your home is safe for trick-or-treaters with food allergies.

Imagine being the sort of person who'd prefer my son have no fun on Halloween instead of buying a few stickers to give out to kids like him. I am so glad I supported the Teal Pumpkin project BEFORE I had an allergy kid. At least I get to know it isn't bad karma.

mattbc These comments are an ableist horror show, and not in a festive way.

My kid has food allergies and I’m gonna take him out to a bunch of strangers houses and hope he doesn’t get sick and die. By the way, I’m a great parent. Just last week I took my 6 yo to the library to hear a guy in a dress read kiddie books.

the comments on this are sad af. Like how tf can ppl be so negative towards little kids getting to be included in a holiday literally designed for little kids

And so it begins. Soon we’ll need a different colored pumpkin for every possible childhood dilemma and woe! 🙄

It's great to have that teal pumpkin participation, because all kids with dietary restrictions can have a fun non food treat.

Candy is toxic and it destroys children’s brains 🧠

Doesn't this effectively mean that this house just gives out raisins? I mean, I'm all for it, kids gotta know which houses to skip.

It's not realistic to expect all of the neighbors to buy bags of different types of candy for children with special needs. I know I can't afford it, but still like to participate. Parents could have their own bag of candy waiting at home and trade out the 'bad' for the 'good'.

Imagine someone walking their kids around the neighborhood and only trick or treating at the 2 houses that have teal pumpkins.

I always Accompany my Kids for Treak or Treating You know I Dressed up like George Washington And My kids in front of me. Never Let kids Walk alone take care of them Would you please

No. No one knows about this and no one cares.

Who actually takes kids to strangers houses for candy anymore? It’s 2019... kinda dangerous.
