JUST IN: California Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a bill effectively allowing college athletes in the state to earn money off their name and image, sign endorsement deals and hire agents.

They should have to share with their teammates at least a portion. After all, without the rest of the team they could not be successful let alone be stars

They'll be violating NCAA rules then, you'd think a $100k education would be considered some sort of financial benefit?

So, so, important.

NETNebraska Make it NCAA law then we'll talk. Otherwise its a non point and the NCAA will disqualify anyone who follows the new Cal law.

I’m sad college athletics in big schools have gotten to this point. I still like the idea of STUDENT athletes which thrives at smaller schools.

If I’m Zion Williamson, I’m pissed rn

UrbanEdDJ Should be interesting to see what the NCAA will do.

Bad idea. They can earn after they get their degree.

So their agents are now going to negotiate with colleges/corporations that will pay the highest prices for their services? LMAO! If their corporate contracts are violated, do the athletes then withhold their services to the university? Opening a whole new bag of worms here!

O’Bannon

Definitely the right direction

Why not just let them have PED's also? Why stop half way?

Haha. They won’t win the Natty. All players will be ineligible and the schools will have all scholarships pulled.

Unbelievable! Don’t think this going to be a good idea. But, I guess we shall see...

iwrite_good NCAA Football 20?

farwell_WR

I hope other states follow - like Alabama

That's dope as fuck. And about damn time.

1. They’re not pro athletes 2. If they wanna make money they can go pro 3. Where does it end? Why not high school athletes?

Game Changer! CA is the world's 6th largest economy. It has 40M people. Many respected Universities. The Monopoly is Finally broken.

Amazing, we hear so much about the staggering college debt that students have, but college athletes aren’t getting paid? Can’t have it both ways

Yes it’s about time, the ncaa finally came to their senses

Ever hear of Ed_OBannon ?

It's Only Fair!

Colleges should be for learning not earning!

The PAC-12 gonna be relevant again!

I would prefer the entire college football industry be re-evaluated so there aren't so many making billions off of college student athletes in the first place. But since capitalism reigns supreme, this is the only fair option.

🎼And the walls came tumbling down

'Colleges reap billions from these student athletes' sacrifices and success but, in the same breath, block them from earning a single dollar,' Gov. Newsom said in a statement. 'That's a bankrupt model.'

Is it even a state issue? Or, is it a NCAA issue?

I would like to see NPR do a study/Poll...how many American Citizens know the difference between and or definitions of the words 'racism' and/vs 'Capitalism'.

Long overdue

Good job!

NPR Choice pageIt’s as American as apple pie 'Whistleblower' = CIA operative put in place by John Brennan (swamp) to take down the president. is FakeNewsMedia only giving listeners half truth stories. Yeah, well when the president is implying that you should be killed for suggesting he might be doing something wrong, then you're takinga pretty big chance. Pretty heroic act, in the face of that pressure, IMO

NPR Choice pageEtelkaLIt It's a problem that no other race is mentioned except 'African-American' (as one of the authors bullies). Even if this plays a part within context, for the reader it is only singling out POC – and with a distinct negative. EtelkaLIt No other race is mentioned except 'African American' (possibly as one of the author's bullies, as the teacher description below suggests). Even if there's a reason within the comic's context, is it necessary to single out POC up front? It seems only harmful.

NPR Choice pageI think that even today India can learn much from Gandhi. Release Kashmir back to the UK as a protectorate to give it time to sort itself, it's People ultimately deciding what They want to do. What is happening there now is not working well for anyone. What political turmoil is he referring. India is in the middle of one of the most stable political era. Despite some law and order issues eminating from such a diverse and vast area, there are no major riots that used to happen routinely in 80's and 90's. Just rubbish from Guha.
