NPR analyzed 97 of the most populous American cities using the median household income and thermal satellite images. In more than three-quarters of those cities, we found that where it's hotter, it also tends to be poorer.

ClimateChange is not only impacting poor communities, but highly impacted ones are communities of color -checkout new interactive climate health disparities map by frontandcenterd & UWDEOHS UW

And heat brings about crime.

It's weird, it's like there's a higher statistical population density in warmer climates. More people equals more economic diversity? Or do we need a satelite imagery study for that...

No surprise there...less wealthy areas are less likely to have green areas that help to mitigate heat. Also corporate polluters more likely to discharge waste in poorer neighborhoods, a result of the greedy exploiting those perceived as less powerful

And what do these areas, rich or poor, have in common? Hint: It is at least as hot on the UES as in the South Bronx.

I always knew those poor bastards were responsible for climate change. I say we ban poor people. BanPoorPeople

It’s the trees.

Some of the worst cause relationship research yet. 1. Poor live near most social services - cities. 2. Poor don't have money to commute 3. Cities have greater mass w/ holds heat more than a cow pasture 4. Homeless Me: If I'm on the street now, let's go where it's warm.

Huh...go figure...concrete holds heat more than trees. Stunning propaganda brought to you by your tax dollars... 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I wonder how much of this can be mitigated by a modest amount of insulation and sealing some cracks?🤔

Good job confirming common sense!

Actually it proves that wherever a Democrat is in charge, there is POVERTY, HOMELESSNESS, VIOLENCE and JOBLESSNESS. Democrats oversee and 'maintain' every GHETTO in this country. GhettoPIMPS

So big cities create more heat and create global warming, got it.

Rich people own land. Poor people don't

NPR Choice pageI’m curious, how do you decide what stories are national news as opposed to news covered simply by local affiliates? The article doesn’t help me understand why this is a story NPR is covering. Are boat fires astronomically rare? The Ventura County Fire Department said firefighters responded to calls about flames aboard the dive boat at approximately 3:28 a.m. local time. Santa Cruz Island is about 18 miles from the mainland and about 60 miles west of Los Angeles. This is incredibly bad, most likely the passengers were in the bunks below deck. 🙏🏼
