NPR Choice pageI’m curious, how do you decide what stories are national news as opposed to news covered simply by local affiliates? The article doesn’t help me understand why this is a story NPR is covering. Are boat fires astronomically rare? The Ventura County Fire Department said firefighters responded to calls about flames aboard the dive boat at approximately 3:28 a.m. local time. Santa Cruz Island is about 18 miles from the mainland and about 60 miles west of Los Angeles. This is incredibly bad, most likely the passengers were in the bunks below deck. 🙏🏼
