This has happened before in 2001, have a look at the modelling of ocean currents and how they transported pumice debris in this paper about the 2001 eruption.

If this was a floatilla of junk encrusted w marinelife the headlines would invoke fear of invasive species and doom. Lest we forget the most successful organisms are opportunists and will hitch a ride anyway they can. The new gene flow is good, but save the GBR it won’t.
