So everyone else can pay more great

IF they can get in...that’s the catch.

Good, but still screwing middle class who don't qualify for subsidized loans/income-based scholarships. How about sliding scale tuition based on GPA and income (bonus pts for work history)? Or, apply it to housing which many scholarships can't be used for.

So much for Louisiana's TOPS Texas here we come!

For those that can’t be bothered to open the link, here’s the TLDR on how it’s being paid for & what the endowment is.

Remarkable

Although I do think it may not be fair to other students whose parents make more than $65k but not enough to cover the tuition of their kids. And I believe this number will be significant! So these kids will have loans for a long time!

Great initiative!

Sweet!

This is awesome and lots of schools are starting scholarships like this. I wish those schools, though, would not make it about an income limit. Cost of living in Dallas very different than Fort Stockton, TX as an example.

I predict a lot of 2-earner families going to one. 'Honey you can stay home a few years, take up other interests, and we save a bundle here.'

Education is vital, free education is the key.

This is what a public university should do for the residents of its state. Bravo

Good, although room and board, which are not covered, can be as much as 17K.

There is a catch. It always comes.

How are they paying for it? Here in MD our governor touted 'gave' free tuition to state community colleges and then cut funds for Pre-K and elementary education to pay for it.

🔥🔥

Well-done Longhorns.

BRAVO UTAustin! That's what I'm talking about!

NPR Choice pageCan anyone explain why it would lead to less people working? Is it just due to costs associated, and companies not willing to take wealth from higher earners for it? Alternatively, we could institute a $1000/month Universal Basic Income, eliminating 70% of poverty and creating 4 million jobs in the process. 🤔🤔🤔 So we need to deport 3 million illegal aliens to off set it

Almost like capitalists will raise the price of a necessity 'as much as the market will bear' and people obsessed with quarterly profits have no human decency.
