One disability justice advocate says Andrew Yang 'falls into a very familiar pattern of non-autistic parents of autistic children using their children to support their own credibility as speakers about autism without actually consulting autistic people.'

👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

really nasty tweet from NPR given all that andrew has been doing for his kids and the country. underneath the thin veneer of faux-liberalism is a very hypocritical 'us not them' establishment rot at the core of NPR.

A resourceful parent of a child with any disability would have lived and breathed expert opinions ever since the disability started/discovered.

'one'

The rate at which media outlets seem to be enthusiastically demonstrating the concept of 'fake news' does not bode well for our democracy.

For god sake, he has a child, He has to deal with the difficulties every day. Can anyone know things better than that? Journalist integrity from NPR can be this slow?

you made your whole workers look bad!

I’m cancelling nprpolitics for this shitty hatchet job

criticism about 'Not consulting autistic people' or 'Not consulting Lydia X. Z. Brown'?

Trash, buzzfeed level. Starting to lean into my shitlist .

Is it time to cancel NPR?

It is difficult to comprehend how or why AndrewYang would be criticized for discussing this issue (and the headline for the tweet is ridiculous). 🇺🇸🧢

NPR falls into a very familiar pattern of a news organization using an autism advocate to smear a presidential candidate and support their own credibility without actually consulting with artistic people

This advocate basically was just saying “Hey, I don’t have an autistic kid.”

This advocates sounds ignorant. Is the pattern to advocate for autistic kids wrong? Has US done enough to protect family with autistic kids? My friend with an autistic son has to move away from US to a north European country, just for getting better care of her son...

He's not pretending to be an expert on autism. He is speaking to his own experiences as the father of an autistic child. How could there possibly be an issue with that?

Every dad has the right to talk about his kid about this. It’s a therapeutic for the family too

npr shame on you. Shame on you!

I cannot believe I used to listen to npr

My sister is a kind of undiagnosed 52 year old autistic savant. She is on disability because she can't hold a job. She also has a kind of undiagnosed mental illness (associated with the autism). The UBI on top of the disability would be a game changer for her/us AndrewYang

WTF NPR?

What BS article is this?

It's really weird to see NPR going on the attack against yang. 🤔

very disappointing npr I thought you were better

Hey npr no more donations for you. Your coverage of AndrewYang has been very biased and/or exclusionary.

I thought you weren't going to pay attention to 'non-serious' candidates. This is your idea of 'fairness'? 🤔

Wow.. this is gross.. I hope everybody stops donating to NPR.

He's a liar. He was totally discredited on National television with his Medicare4All rouse. But NPR continues its corporate push.

What? Does this even mean

Wow. I’m officially over NPR.

Meanwhile this is acceptable. Thanks for calling out the “real” problems.

You don't cover the Asian man because 'he doesn't have a credible path' to victory yet you cover the black man and white woman who poll lower and raised less money than Yang. Then you write a hit piece criticizing him for taking about how autistic son? NPR what's this bias?

Hmmm , if being a parent of an autistic child doesn’t “qualify” you to speak credibly about it, what does?!?

Imagine writing this headline and thinking anyone in the entire nation wouldn’t see it as a smear.

What a lazy journalist

I know everybody who is familiar with Yang's policies is going to be upset over this one. We do know what TheFreedomDividend stacks with, and have plenty of media of him explaining his policies re: neuro-diversity/disability, both for children and adults. just said 'IDK 🤷'

Raise an autistic child; if you're any kind of parent, you will very much have experience to speak on autism.

What kind of nonsensical comment is this. Try to understand the challenges of parents with their child’s disability and possible societal stigma attached to it before passing your judgment

This is true enough, but people who support us, even though they don't know what they're talking about, are still rare. We don't want to discourage them ... but we do want to educate them as well. That'll be a good trick, if we can figure out how to do it.... 😉 actuallyautistic

this is disappointing

Wow this tweet broke the dumbest tweet meter. NPR is officially worst that tabloids. I almost thought this was parody, the I saw it was NPR and thought 'this is real!?'.

Looks like donations to npr will stop effective immediately and redirected to AndrewYang

You guys are truly diminishing in quality...too bad.

As someone on the spectrum this article pisses me off. & his son being autistic means he cares enough to see what his economic future may look like. & you've got SSDI mixed up w/ SSI in ur dumb article. But first let's talk about all the ones living on NOTHING 🙂

Don't think I ever him day he was speaking for Autism. This is garbage Npr. Not a good look.

More NPR trash jobs Yang has more autistic supporters than any candidate by far

Lmaoooo. This is the most ridiculous thing that I have ever read. What the fuck is this ?

I am disappointed at NPR. No more donations for you!

But he got bashed when he did an event with autistic people... He can't win

I'm going to say it. Fuck .

Ratio

Did this advocate provide a list of the autistic people that they consulted about whether to consult autistic people in forming policy about when to consult autistic people?

Omphaloskeptics is your name really on this piece? And you’re okay with that? This is gross. I trusted you. I’ve donated. Journalists are meant to be objective and factual. Yang2020 is sincerely trying to help.

I just read the entire article and all I heard was a few implants throw in their two pennies on whether or not they believe him to have done 'ALL' the research 'supposedly' other talking head candidates have...get Wreck'd NPR and you pencil pushing pundits!!! YangGang

npr I’m so disappointed in you, you’re better than this....

Fake news

What a dumb quote

Can npr chill with the yang bashing good lord

Very bad press, the author should feel bad

Check yourself . Your bias is showing. Two hit pieces in a day. Wow. Forget about getting another donation our of me.

So this and DomenicoNPR leaving Yang out of primary coverage and justifying that editorial decision on the same day. Yeah has some bias. Is it anti Asian racist bias? Maybe.

Why do I feel like this is the MSNBC Asia running hit piece on Yang’s Asian jokes, citing three people of Asian descent who felt “offended”? Some propaganda and bs right there eh?

Let's see how LOW can go

Gtfo of here with that shit . One disability advocate's opinion is an editorial.

Hi NPR. Can you remember which of the other candidates mentioned autism AT ALL in their stump speeches or at debates? ... ... ... ... ... ... “HEY... WHO WANTS MONGOLIAN TUVA SINGING HIPHOP FUSION TOTE BAGS?!?!” HatchetPiece GetFkdNPR Yang2020

I completely lost my respect to now, don't ask me for donations.

🗑

Cancelingmmy monthly contributions. My wallet thanks you.

That's a bad take. I am a parent of a child who has Asperger's. I don't hear anything from Yang that suggests that he is speaking for people w/Autism. He speaks about HIS experience. Ppl are so hyper cancel culture if everything isn't perfect it's ridiculous.

One pissed off senior editor? Check.

A ridiculous statement made by one disability justice advocate. Why is this newsworthy?

Please stop . This smear is disgusting and angers many on a personal level. Parents of children with disabilities fight every minute of every day to help their children and improve their quality of life. This is a low blow, even for you. YangGang

One journalism justice advocate says that NPR 'falls into a very familiar pattern of non-journalists using opinion articles to support their own credibility about journalism without actually consulting journalists'

This is what I am replying to. I can't consult with every adult Autistic before I have to explain to the hiring manager why my son turns his back to him and answers to ME the question asked. The manager looked uncomfortable and found excuses not to hire him. 💔

Doesn't sound like the NPR that I knew of.

ONE? You're rolling a twitter headline with the negative thoughts of ONE RANDOM person? Talk about unconscious bias. Check yourself . You have no idea which patrons you're pissing off. I personally know quite a few of your major gift donors, and I'll be forwarding this.

Wow! Unbelievable. better check itself. True colors? What money paid for that headline. Just wow!

You're welcome, you incompetent fake news hacks:

Sounds like you don’t think people should advocate for Autistic people. What a vindictive and judgemental society we live in.

Oh non verbal adults with special needs *want* to be valued on their economic contribution? In a world where technology is making every human being less economically relevant? Im glad they have you as their economic philosophy translator

I was at a disability town hall and everyone was blown away by his insight. You can't tell me he doesn't know what he is talking about. He is the smartest person running for President.

Oh my god you are disgusting AndrewYang Zach_Graumann

Who's paying you off ?

Weird, I can see this trope, I always got the sense that Yang spoke about the ‘experience of being a parent of a child with autism’ and not the experience of having autism... I’ll listen closer next time

Have you been to his website? He's incredibly policy intensive

Mayor Pete issued the code red to NPR after getting bumped by AndrewYang

Wtf?

AndrewYang will modify the plan as he interacts more with different communities. I think he is the BEST candidate for all Americans. Evelyn Yang’s focus would be on the disability community. Please interview them both so we can all learn more!

I am a parent of a son born with a neurological disorder. I strongly support AndrewYang because It would ensure my child received UBI for the rest of his life! He receives nearly$0 /in assistance. He gets a disabled buss pass and thats about it...FreedomDividend please

Without actually consulting autistic people... What? Literally, his OWN SON is autistic. A familial relationship is stronger than 'consulting' strangers. NPR stop this obvious bias against Andrew Yang.

Woooow, nothing shady from NPR here. 🙄

*people continue wondering why disability never gets talked about*

Identified patient: a term used to describe the person in a dysfunctional family who has been unconsciously, or sometimes consciously, selected to lay blame upon to draw attention away from the family's true inner conflicts, true problem behaviors, and their perpetrators.

Thanks for reporting on opinions and alternative facts! Great journalism 💯

I think the real question is this- does anyone really believe that Andrew is not open to talking with autistic adults and addressing their concerns? Sure he speaks from his own experiences, but if there's one thing I know, it's that he listens.AndrewYang

YangGang

YangGang, please read Julián's plans for those with disability. These are the best set of policies so far. We can do a better job of listening

The good news is that he’s the kind of candidate who will hear this type of criticism and actually apply it to bettering his policies.

I used to like NPR. wtf.

Advocating the autistic community be talked about...less Bold strategy

So because he's not ashamed of his son's condition he's now using him for political gain instead?

It might not be a stretch to say Yang may not have had much interaction with people with autism or disabilities—until his son. Sometimes something in or life happens or changes making us hyper aware of something that existed all along.

How can you assert that he hasn’t consulted any autistic people? Do you have any source to back up that claim?

Wow... so one person saying one thing that is CLEARLY FALSE as can be seen with literally any of the many interactions he’s had with other autistic parents. And it’s a whole news article? Did you go looking for some uninformed person with a strong conviction for smears & clicks

We probably won't even have this conversation if it weren't for him... Why is he even getting criticize for shading the light to the issue while others candidates barely talks about it?

Absurd.👆

What is this shiiit npr.... Really?

Many people have pointed out the error in the article, that UBI stacks with SSDI. Any journalistic publication with integrity would issue a correction and addend the article with the correct information. Please do the right thing.

Really? Really? Just lost a donor!

Yang has repeatedly talked about how autistic kids become autistic adults, and the subject matter expert claimed that was a blind spot of his. The author also didn't bother looking up which programs stack with UBI and which don't, SSDI stacks with UBI. How did NPR miss that?

2 mins of research would have informed the author that yang clearly states that SSDI stacks with UBI. It's incredibly irresponsible to not to do basic research when reporting and to use hit piece quotes like this to draw clicks to the article. What happened to you NPR?

The story should be about the courage a leader putting his reality out there to destigmatize being human in all forms. No good deed goes unpunished

Yang is talking about his platform helping anyone not fitting into the system, not having economical value, etc. Not so much specifically autistic people, it's just a relatable example.

So - that’s the pull quote from the article? When did buzzfeed start haven’t more journalistic integrity than npr?

Yo I legit grew up thinking NPR was a solid program when I was listening to the show in the car. I was sooo wrong. NPR is garbage wtf How are you seriously going to say that a parent of an autistic child doesn’t have legitimate insight into their issues?

Facts? Who needs them. Just make some random dudes opinion sound like fact. Wow. is now the new fake news. Wow. How the world has changed. Did your expert speak to Andrew?

Didn't know NPR started a comedy program. Hilarious!

I guess that person would rather nobody talk about the issue then because Yang’s the only one with a policy for it!

Well huh, what other candidate is even taking the initiative to create conversation, dialog and debate? He has, yet again, pushed the Overton window. NPR, please consider being more nuanced in analysis and expressing your opinions.

This is extremely bizarre story to write about. It’s like they are finding things to be upset about. Yang has been the only person on stage to talk about how all humans have intrinsic value and deserve love, care and respect. YangGang AndrewYang YangMediaBlackout scottsantens

Nice unsubstantiated opinion from an advocate you posted there.

One disability justice advocate says all other candidates fall into a very familiar pattern of not talking about people with autism at all. Where is that story?

I don't think I've seen the word or a variant of 'autism' used so much in such a short space.

Children aren't people?

Hey NPR, did you hear that click? That's the sound of my mouse click unfollowing your acct. I don't have enough time to read this kind of garbage. Can you post some real journalism?

, who suffer the most and are most affected by a child with special needs? The child and the parents! It is shameful that you portray Andrew Yang this way. As a scientist studying neuroscience, I am so grateful that Yang speaks out, from their own experience, about austism

Apparently Wang is not one of the 'chosen' by the Democrat 'media,' or they would not pull out the singular and/or anonymous negative person as is the usual case for the GOP and President Trump, in particular.

'But he didnt talk to me first' 🙄 My son is non-verbal... I am and will always be his voice, and no...i dont think I need to consult you before being his advocate.

This is a case of you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t. His child is a part of him. How could he not talk about him?

They say he doesn’t have as many details laid out as other candidates, but the article doesn’t go into specifics? Yang is the only one I hear mention the topic at all. He’s not wrong that immediate attention should be given to children and families if that’s where it helps most.

The brain controls our bodies by producing brain signals. The signal is made of electricity. When external electricity or electromagnetic waves are delivered to the brain, the brain signal appears to be disturbed and appears as a mental illness(Autism) Remove the cause and reboot

Yawn-we get it no outsiders-unless it is Pete. This article is garbage.

THIS IS NOT A SMEAR! THIS IS REALITY. I am ActuallyAutistic and talked to top Autistic adult advocates in UK and US and a large population of Autistic people. Autism has been discussed for 2 years..

It’s appalling how many of you so called “trusted” media sources don’t do research when you publish articles such as this one. It’s so incredibly irresponsible on your part. Literally everything in this article is addressed on his website.

But aren't they consulting their autistic children on a daily basis? If they're helping them get what they need, wouldn't they be around of people diagnosed often as well?

scottsantens NPR smearing Yang, no matter what angle. This is abhorent.

Andrew yang is a parent to an autistic child and credibility with experiencing being parent doesnt make you credible? Some people need to critics of everything I guess...?

Man oh man. Some folks can’t be helped because they won’t allow it

Did you ask him if he spoke with people with autism Or just assuming like all the ignorant journalists who refuse to do their homework? 🙄

This is a perfect example of how you can never be left enough to satisfy the left. I don’t agree with his politics, but give the guy some credit for bringing the issue to the forefront and kudos for being an advocate.

What the fuck kind of smear piece is this? Disgusting journalistic work

Really, jmsummers? YangGang Yang2020

ONE disability justice advocate? Wow.

Oh, please. You guys are gutter.

Wow. is losing credibility by the day

takes a shit opinion and runs a headline with it. Great journalism guys! /s

FakeNews YangMediaLies RacistLeft YangGang Another example of the elitist left smearing Yang. Are Yang's children not people? And you have 24/7 surveillance on Yang to confirm that he has never talked to anyone autistic?

I am so disappointed in NPR’s work reporting this election. No donations any more until I see improvements in basic journalistic tasks such as getting candidate’s platform correct.

Oof. I respectfully disagree with this take. As a parent to a son with Autism, there's a special connection and genuine love for atypicals. Authentic advocacy should be encouraged.

He can only know his experience as a father of an autistic child. That's what he fucking is. You should be more concerned if he's researching how to sound like something he's not.

FIXED IT: 'I would have no idea how not to talk about it, in the sense that it's part of our family and part of our lives,' he said. 'The last thing that would ever occur to me would be to somehow obscure the reality of Christopher and his autism from our story.'

would people with high functioning autism be able to speak for people with non-verbal autism ? would that go too far? can we ever trust that people can know a little bit about people without being those people? have we verified ay has never spoken to as adults? etc

So he shouldn’t advocate for his 7yo son? Weird huh

NPR, I’d love if you went ahead and deleted this piece of nonsense. Coming at you from a brother of a fellow with autism. It’s just bizarrely misinformed and pretty dumb tbh.

He’s the only candidate talking about and as a father of an autistic child he has ALL the credibility in the world....wtf NPR....YangGangFamily

This is a good story with a very misleading headline. No other candidate is talking about autism or ENFORCING THE AMARICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT! Especially when it comes to voter access.

What a wrong statement abt AndrewYang’s motives. He’s invested in his children in profound ways. Think abt how UBI will help adult autistic children when the parents die / can’t help anymore. His political motivation is one of love for his autistic child humanityfirst yanggang

F whoever said that. How dare they make such an unfounded claim.

This is dumb

Oh, and considering there is an hour video of yang with a group of disabled and spectrum individuals lliterally discussing everything from new transportation tech benefits for mobility, access to resources and education, new tech in medicine and cost reduction... Fibs as usual.

Ask yourself this. If yang wasn't on stage, would autism and disability even be being discussed in the first place. The answer is a clear and resounding NO. Given debates are soundbites without substance, basing argument like this on debate performance is ridiculous.

Garbage.

BookBeckBecca wanna add thoughts as an autistic adult Yang supporter?

Holy shit are you kidding me? 'Use my experiences as it relates to others in my situation' NPR: BUT YIU DIDNTNDFYALK TK EXERTS Such an ignorant tweet on so many levels.

That's just cherry picking I'm sure he speaks to his son all the time. Like come on.

Please watch this video where Andrew talks about supporting adults with autism

Hit piece

Hasn’t Yang said in the past that he recognizes some of the things his son is experiencing as things he experienced as a child himself? I think it’s fair for him to speak on the subject.

Bologna shame on you

AndrewYang has every right to speak about his son. He has even mentioned before that too many people stop caring when the child with autism grows up. Come on , you're grasping at straws trying to smear him. YangGang

just take your monthly $1000 and shut up

If there is anyone to advocate for autism awareness it is THEIR PARENTS.

This is disgusting to read . AndrewYang is a loving parent and patriot who does not exploit his children or family. ShameOnNPR Seems like you’re afraid of his rise. This only fuels the YangGang.

Article:”Yang's proposals focus only on children, rather than also including policy directed toward disabled adults”.well the writer could have added what yang said in that Iowa event also few of the criticisms are based on a 1min response from debate😔🤦‍♂️

That is terrible journalism. To highlight the one negative quote when it is incorrect. AndrewYang have said on numerous occasions 'Guess what? Autistic children grow up to be autistic adults.'

Shame on you NPR; your bias is showing.

Man NPR is really showing itself to be part of the Institutional Establishment DNC that wants Yang gone. Eye opening.

Wut

As an autistic parent, he speaks for me.

are you fucking kidding me?

Democrats don't seem to care if our children are killed with heroin and cocaine that is coming across our wide open southern border. Democrats, like Georgia's Lucy McBath, don't seem to care at all.

Most of the article is actually more positive. This post is ridiculous.

'One concern I have, though, is when I look at the platform, [UBI will] replace SSDI (Social Security Disability Income) and other things.' That's a lie. Do your research. states very clearly that SSDI and UBI will stack. fakenews smear

They didn’t even do research. It’s so disheartening that a media source I’ve grown up trusting is outing itself as non journalism and feeding its listeners what they WANT them to think. They are literally becoming Fox News...

Yang: Let's put money into the Autism cause as well as in the hands of caretakers of autistic folks NPR: yOu dOn'T kNow a SinGle AuTistic Person Me: what in the actual fuck

Wow. Shame on you , nprpolitics

Delete this article. It lies about his policies and offers nothing to the conversation. So many lies. Shame on you for posting this.

Yang talksspecifically about the needs of parents who take care of autistic children. He does not suggest how best to take care of them, but instead, proposes that UBI enables parents to stay home and/or to use the $ in ways they feel believe is best.

You guys have been really disappointing this election cycle. I used to have respect for npr 😞 why not just embrace a positive vision for the future MLK died fighting for a UBI! And it’s inevitably our future, automation isn’t stopping 🤦‍♂️ Why not try to embrace actual change 🤷‍♂️

Thank you and AndrewYang from YangGang YangGangFamily StayHuman and HumanityFirst matter.

Yang is not talking about autism, he’s talking about the needs of those that take care of autistic children and how best to support them.

GigiGloriby Wait, I missed the part where Andrew Yang claimed to be an expert on autism. I only heard the part where he loves his children and greatly admires his wife for staying home to make sure the children have the best life they can. You people need to knock it off.

'ONE disability justice advocate'. Congratulations on finding ONE who happens to be a Bernie supporter to talk shit about Yang. Grade A journalism there.

Let's do some fact checking, please. SSDI does combine with the dividend.

I just met AndrewYang on NYE. I am autistic. Here's a photo of me telling him about autselfadvocacy and giving him a pin in honor of his dedication to supporting autistic people. autisticsforyang yanggang

I recommend folks read the article YangMediaShoutout for the coverage. Seems another case of some misalignment in headline and text body. That said sure one named advocate takes issue compared to “other [unnamed] Democrat’s’ platforms” another has nuance. All in all an ok piece

What a joke has become....Sadddddd (best trump voice)

You directly lie about SSID stacking, it’s on his DAMN WEBSITE!!! It’s NOT HARD!!! INTEGRITY, HEARD ABOUT IT?

Seriously? This is the angle in which you frame your Tweet to shape people's perception less familiar with Yang? Says a lot.

I don’t understand this narrative of bashing parents of ASD children. We are fierce advocates and are trying our best to navigate a disorder which is inadequately understood and has no clear pathway, as it is a spectrum. We want to ensure our ASD kids have a seat at the table

I watched a town hall where him and his wife spoke to not just parents of autistic kids but took questions from autistic adults as well. Also the article you posted says yang doesnt mention how other programs stack with the freedom dividend- its literally under “Freedom Dividend”

thanks for reporting on AndrewYang, he does have support for adults with disabilities please watch his interview with davidaxelrod to better understand his position

Really, just stop. This is low.

One of the only candidates *ever* to bring autism into the presidential debates or into their political platform, and you assume it is for political points and not the result of raising a child with autism?

NPR felt left out. They want to be in the MSNBC club so bad.

They’re are no longer questions you just didn’t do you’re research Npr

One thing I've learned this election cycle, is that you CANT TRUST to give you fair and unbiased coverage. I thought they were above board, but the repeated lies, like this article, and avoidance of Yangs campaign in general makes me really sad

Smear. factual error in the npr you’re supposed to be better than this!

If anyone interested in validating this article, please check out this 1 hour interview between AndrewYang and Eric Weinstein

I have a few friends on the autistic spectrum. Each one of them support Andrew Yang. Using his own child as an example might be helping his campaign, but no part of me is even remotely convinced that he isn't being completely genuine.

Thank you for the article. For people interested in listening to the actual talk, here is the link YangGang

People liking this tweet not even knowing what it means but it sounds sorta woke for some online virtue points

'pRiVilLaGe'

Translation: “Andrew Yang falls into the familiar pattern of parents caring about their children and using those children as examples when talking about broader issues”

People first language NPR. We say “children who are autistic”. We do not let the disability define the child. Just trying to help.

I met one of the first PhDs in the field of Autism. She said AY’s policy would do more for the field in the 40 years she’s been active than any other politician. So Go expert that...

NPR,, et tu brutus?

Interviewed advocates are correct and I agree AndrewYang disability plan is not as extensive as other Dems. But big picture is we must FixTheFloor. 48.9M have a disability. FD = $586Byr to disabled. 65 million care for family members ~$780Byr to Caregivers.

His goal is to have the conversation and start putting resources to work finding those policies that will work. Policy is guidance not legislation. Just like he's in favor of reparations, he's not trying to claim he knows what is adequate because he isn't ADOS.

To be fair, there isn’t enough emphasis placed on disabled voters across-the-board. And disabled voters get lumped together with everyone deemed as atypical. However, Yang has every right to talk about his kids and his experience as a parent of a child with special needs.

I have worked as a PCA for an adult with DS and asd for years. His parents are experts. This is absurd to castigate someone who speaks about this issue when no one else is because his policies need work. As if he would not consult experts when the time came. Smh.

sounds like one disability justice advocate has their head up their ass

Read the article. The constructive criticism is fair and on point. Adults with developmental disabilities have unique social, emotional, educational , housing and transportation needs.

He is saying that his stay at home wife works just as hard or harder than he does and deserves UBI... he doesn’t have to consult anyone to convince me that stay at home parents deserve to be treated as valuable members of our society.

I used to think NPR was a respectable news source. The 2016 election taught me otherwise, and I see they've learned absolutely nothing since then. They claim to be independent, but they're just as biased and uninformed as the other networks.

NPR piece on the opinion of 'ONE...advocate' is actually a DNC hit job on a candidate popular with the masses but not a chosen one by the establishment. Government media doing the work of the DNC insiders.

Except I've seen Yang meeting with autistic persons. Why do they assume that he's never spoken to autistic people?

No scientist has ever been the Earth's whole meteorological system, so who are they to tell others how to reduce/reverse climate change?

These 'lingering policy questions' could have been answered through a simple research of his website. Moving forward, please be sure to engage in factually base conversation.

This is gross. I expected to see stuff like this at the usual clickbait vendors selling outrage to the mob, but not NPR. (sigh)🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

It’s never enough. Let’s just go back to not talking about it, because this precious flower doesn’t like the way we’re talking about it.

I think that advocate meant 'people speaking from personal experience.'

As a parent with an autistic child, that has got to be one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen.

what

At least we know now that Yang is not NPR’s chosen candidate because this is just rubbish.

'Without consulting autistic people.' ? His SON is autistic.

Why weren't the two autistic advocates quoted in the article (Ari Ne'eman and Lydia X Z Brown) identified as being autistic? You are being part of the problem here. People need to see autistic adults who are professionals and experts.

FIREYOSE Appreantly, NPR has no valid criticism..

The Freedom Dividend stacks ON TOP OF SSDI. It's right on Yang's website. This lazy article is journalistic malpractice.

He's the only candidate even talking about autism but he's being criticized for not doing more?

I don’t have ADHD... my son and daughter do. I am convinced I can speak on having ADHD children . Tell me I’m wrong.

What the actual fuck?

FIREYOSE The children are not autistic “people”?

🤦🏻‍♀️ no thank you NPR. Whatever your trying to do here... just don’t.

“You can only talk about something if you actually have it directly” - anybody shutting down a discussion they don’t like it, time to get rid of the narrative police

So, a parent of an autistic child, who has cared for said child and their challenges, isn’t allowed to speak on the subject? Maybe that “advocate” should STFU.

Jeesum. I think he knows his own kid

Cripes, that sentence is like a roller coaster.

Really grasping at straws here

Absurd to imply Yang has no or limited insight being the actual parent of an autistic child.

Oh please! He’s a dad of an autistic child. That’s enough of a purity test for me.

I'm the parent of an autistic adult. I potty trained an autistic person. I have credibility. I then got a man to teach him to pee standing up, because I do have LIMITS. I didn't consult him about it, either.

We know, we know. Nobody can say 💩 about anything, regardless of whether it’s positive, and regardless of whether they mean it. It has to be parsed down to dust instead of evaluated on its own merits. still2019

I mean it’s a fair point, though poorly worded. In layman’s terms, it’s like saying that you’re an expert on Latino issues because you celebrate cinco de mayo.

That's kinda the thing ALL parents do.

He’s the only candidate talking about autism yet you complain because he’s talking from personal experience? For fucks sake!

The same is true of parents of children with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder

JustSayin
