Jimmy Aldaoud came to the U.S. legally when he was a baby. He spoke no Arabic and had never been to Iraq. At 41, he was deported to Iraq. He died two months later. Many deportees arrive without money, valid IDs or knowledge of the language and country.

I would have a problem with this decision. To deport this guy if he was a productive member of society. I have a concern about the process but not for thos this guy.

He was taken to Najaf, on a public holiday. US ICE official laughed about it. Visa officer helped him, put him in contact with someone that could help. He also had diabetes & was sent with no insulin

Saying you don't hate anybody being raised a Catholic is pure horse pucky. It's NOT WHAT YOU SAY, IT'S WHAT YOU DO! Pelosi's actions can't be refuted, her butt needs booted ( out) she should be tired.(re-tired,that is!) Obummer was famous for similar flowery 180°deceptive words.

The government leftist movement is the responsible parties for this guys death, we have no way to get to the bottom of this one. Sad,but true,so what can you do ? Vote out leftist radical Dems this next Nov,+ lets start solving this issue. The bloods on Pelosi's hands. Thats hate

This is a classic example of why border jumping must stop, and proper immigration like when Ellis Island was used to process immigrants. Border jumpers are not immigrants, but squatters who break our laws when politicians won't do their jobs and fix this problem. Should SUE them.

This is really effed up.😡

_ReaalAmerican_ No wonder they hate T-rumps* America

rabiasquared Inhumane.

thesherylralph ICE & deportation laws need 2 be changed & made clear. not get into situation b/c not know history. asylum is 4 persons fleeing conflict, not poverty. America best help migrants, non-military assistance, international charities, church learn 2 advocate 4 rights in their country

'He'd served time for convictions in a series of criminal charges over the course of TWO DECADES.' Lead with that next time. This guy should have self deported to Canada. when Trump was elected. He's stupid not to have done that.

Is this balanced reporting?

deportation of criminals, is a good thing for America.. it's sad , he was killed , in his country, but who knows , what he did there. to meet this fate..

Just because someone is squatting in your house doesn't mean you gave it to them. Criminals don't deserve to be rewarded for their crimes.

Felon. Sent back home. He knew the cost of his crimes.

“No one is above the law.”

He was a career criminal. Do better NPR. Do better.

This NOT the land of the free or brave...America is NOT a leader. Not anymore.

Please list his criminal record. You all have manipulated us for far to long. I understand his rap sheet was extensive.

Why does NPR keep recycling this story?

NPR conveniently left out that he had multiple convictions of two decades of criminal history. Nevertheless, it's not the president that creates these laws. If you want ppl like him to get to stay, call your Congresses ppl and tell them to pass laws making felons nondeportable.

What did he do for 41 yrs? Incredulous to think he concluded he could claim citizenship without pursuing the paperwork.

Lots of “pro-life” folks in the comments cool with a guy getting a death sentence because he didn’t have a green card. Typical hypocrisy from the right.

When straight-up reporting of facts sounds identical to activism, you know our policies are truly abominable.

death by deportation ImpeachTheMF RemoveTheMF

The courts must of determined that your a hopeless case to send you back to Iraq

He really messed up his opportunity.

You left out the part where he is a convected felon. clickbate

😯😯😯😯😯😯😯😯😯

Did he speak Farsi?

'In 2017, the Trump administration ordered stepped-up deportations of Iraqis convicted of felonies who were in the U.S. legally but had not become citizens.' Literally nothing wrong here. Choosing a sad instance in order to play for emotions does not change this.

From your own article: 'He'd served time for convictions in a series of criminal charges over the course of two decades.' Nobody forced him to break the law.

NotMyAmerica

angel4autism 💔💔💔

🤬

At least 20 convictions from 1998-2017, including assault w/dangerous weapon, domestic violence, breaking & entering, & home invasion. Doesn’t make deportation right & this is absolutely tragic, but astonishing you’d omit those details

rabiasquared Umm did you print this during the Obama administration? He deported many more than Trump

shameful and cruel...

MikeBroderickVO

'... convicted of felonies who were in the U.S. legally but had not become citizens. U.S. and international law prevent deportation back to countries where deportees would be under threat' Ain't he signed a doc while he interviewed for his 🟩 😏 Don't blame realDonaldTrump 🙏🙏

So sad. Disgusting.

.this is a crime against humanity realDonaldTrump even a child can see that. Why do you thi k these injustices don't add up - they do. They affect society morale and your global standing the community that man knew and loved at home in America.

Didn't know ANY Arabic? Now, I'm not Arab but I'd love to learn Arabic. Think how useful that could be in such situations.

I felt sorry for him until: “He'd served time for convictions in a series of criminal charges over the course of two decades.”

Welcome to all refugees and immigrants who enter our country legally. We are a country of laws.

This Arab person had PLENTY of time-DECADES, to get his legal status as a citizen or permanent resident & he apparently failed to do so! No sympathy for that one folks!😏 Js

rabiasquared This is absolutely barbaric. It disgraces all of us who are American.

Weird how it's only the brown immigrants getting deported. Oh wait. No it isn't weird.

How in the blue fuck is this possible in the US? This is criminal !! ICE is a terror department of the government. This must stop !!

rabiasquared Why was he deported?

rabiasquared The cruelty is the point.

Felonies have consequences, including deportation if you are not a citizen. Too bad for these individuals, but I suppose an article about almost any felon’s life after prison is likely to be sad.

so we can make room for nice immigrants who don’t steal or do narcotics

Yeah and why was he deported? Because he was a criminal....

So sad . Too bad. He was a career criminal. No sympathy whatsoever. He made his bed. America has one fewer taker.

This nightmare must end!

That sucks!!! Sorry 4 him

But while opioids have become easier and easier to obtain through illicit markets and sellers on the dark web, a drug that could save countless lives has become increasingly out of reach.
