Adopted at birth in 1985. I have no interest in meeting the biologicals, but I do have a deep sense of not belonging. I’m not “white” enough for some people and I’m not nearly “Korean” enough for others.
The homing instinct and hope of reuniting with birth family to know who we are is something we all feel, especially when it is taken away.
Full disclosure: my mother ran one of the US adoption agencies that placed hundreds of Korean children with American families in the 70's & 80's. I can't imagine what it would be like to be raised in a family and a community where no one else looks like you. 1/
