"As our survey shows, many people see remote work as an opportunity to relocate to where they want and where they can afford to live," says Adam Ozimek, chief economist at Upwork.
"This is an early indicator of the much larger impacts that remote work could have in increasing economic efficiency and spreading opportunity."About 20% of respondents planning to move live in a major city. Since many expect remote work to be more long term, more than half aim to relocate over two hours away or even farther from their current home.
Customers told the moving company that the pandemic made them re-evaluate what was important to their family, which meant being closer to extended family and friends. Other customers said they had to widen their job search out of state.
Would love to work remotely! Finally get a chance to utilize my Bachelor's degree 🤔 remoteworking
Go to Latin America 🌎
But still limited by access to high speed internet and 5G
I definitely like the flexibility option. However, there’s no guarantee employers will continue to offer record levels of work from home.
As a teacher who commutes two hours in each direction because I can’t afford to live in the area where I work, I wonder if this might drive rent down in the cities. Then again, if families are moving away, that affects my field also.
What sucks is all this lefties leaving their failed democrat run cities and polluting the great conservative cities with their garbage agendas.
If those who can move out from the larger cities this benefits those left behind too as population density decreases.
kkrz1211 If remote was permanent I would do this in an instant. It's likely not so I'm stuck in Cali for next 2-3 years or so
Startups can get very lucky by finding a wave to ride. This might just be that wave for PerchPeek 🌊 🚀
claireisrad you 😘😘😘✨✨✨
This is not even slightly surprising
I suspect that these people are jumping the gun. There are good reasons for companies to concentrate operations in big cities. Big Tech has been renting more office space in New York throughout the pandemic.
They are realizing that they no longer have to live in dirty, crime infested hellhole Democrat cities.
There seems to be some other reasons they are leaving the cities....
And, how many of them will be hounded by their states (such as California) if their states (like California) have a propensity to come after them for YEARS because the structured/planned an escape to a less tax-prone area? Pack your job or biz, CA reserves the right to tax afar.
Fascinating.
MAGA WORKED
Can't wait for all these yuppies to leave the Bay Area
They are relocating because their cities are being destroyed and they do not feel safe. 🙏
No sh**. We don't want to live in huge cities with little nature. We have to because that's where the jobs are but now? With the ability to work from anywhere? Why would you choose Manhattan over somewhere livable, affordable, beautiful and pleasant?
DefundNPR
City by Charles Simak where everyone that can or wants to goes remote everything is delivered society is digital, distributed
This illustrates the Dems’ complete lack of self awareness perfectly. Cities are destroyed by Democratic corruption. Lefties: “Let’s move to red states and completely ignore what ruined the places we came from. 🥴”
As long as they don't come to Texas. We're at capacity.
I would expect to see a migration to areas with lower density and lower cost of living numbers
Live where you vacation! staycation lovewhereyoulive FamilyFirst
Makes sense. Why stay in a dingy or overpriced area if you don't have to? WFH may be good for many
Yeah, it's great. Don't have to live in crime ridden smelly cesspools of big cities to make a living anymore. Can live and work free again.
That’ll change more red states to purple
nice
