The District Attorney’s race is gearing up to pitch George Gascón’s reform agenda against former federal prosecutor Nathan Hochman’s tough-on-crime attitude as the two candidates
While Gascón leads the race, he faces a tough road ahead. Challengers took the majority of the vote and multiple polls have shown the embattled incumbent with a disproval rating of over 50%. “If I’m running Gascón’s campaign, Hochman would be the challenger that I would certainly want to run against in the general, because L.A. County is an overwhelmingly Democratic county,” said Bustamante.
Bustamante said he does still see a path to Hochman victory in November, especially if the challenger continues to clearly communicate how his policies would protect people’s safety and economic interests. Hatami also fought hard in the primary sharing his story of being a child kidnapping victim and his victories in several prominent child abuse cases, including the torture and murder of. However, his campaign coffers were smaller than Hochman’s with around $780,000 in total contributions and his advertising suffered as a result, said Bustamante.
