Novak Djokovic Apologizes for Hitting Line Judge with Ball at U.S. Open

The tennis star writes,"This whole situation has left me really sad and empty. I checked on the lines person and the tournament told me that thank God she is feeling ok. I‘m extremely sorry to have caused her such stress. So unintended. Djokovic was defaulted from the rest of the tournament Sunday in the middle of his fourth-round match against-- who was up 6-5 in the first set and had just scored a point -- when ND angrily and haphazardly smacked a ball that hit a lineswoman.

Now the line judge is afraid of men and tennis balls, she's 100% permanently disabled.

It was accidental and it’s not like he intended to hit her. I think she overreacted to being hit. It wasn’t even hard and it’s not like it was a baseball

He did the same thing all of the players do. This line person was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I heard he shot her in the head with a 9mm semi automatic handg...whoops, hold on, my wife said she was hit with a tennis ball and that’s why she dropped like a stone. My bad COVIDIOTS

Line judges should be 18 or younger........ If there a 1000 years and older....... they should be put through a series of TEST.

Give his prize money to the linesperson. I have no doubt Novak wouldn't have wanted to hurt anyone. But if you are going to take his prize money give it to the person who suffered the damage.

Interesting if a police officer kill an innocent man nothing happens.... but Novak very quickly getting booted. The justice system is failing...

It looked like he didnt even hit the ball hard, I'm sorry the line person was hit but she wasn't hurt, they should have just suspended him for the day

Have played tennis 30 years-never saw anything this ridiculous. Novak wasn’t even looking & it’s very NORMAL to tap a ball back to the sideline. The line judge is also a DRAMA QUEEN who should have been paying attn-should also retire & take up acting. Shame on usopen
