National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration News

Geomagnetic storms on Earth brought a decent seat to watch the aurora borealis all the way down to deep in the heart of Texas.

Thanks to a few solar explosions that caused some pretty gnarly geomagnetic storms on Earth , Texans got the rare opportunity to enjoy the Northern Lights right here in the Lone Star State . They took full advantage of it by snapping some gorgeous photos. “Aurora borealis last night as seen from the Río Bravo del Norte near Paso Lajitas ,” X user Antonio Alacrán said as he shared some of the celestial eye candy in a Saturday post.

But the geomagnetic storms intensified the spectacle enough for people all over the country to experience it, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. 'This is an unusual and potentially historic event,' Clinton Wallace, director of the NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center, said in the Friday news release.
