Northeast Ohio weather: Record warmth today, showers/storms arrive this evening

Forecast on April 29, 2024CLEVELAND, Ohio - At lunchtime Monday, temperatures were already near 80 degrees across the region, and further warming is expected through the middle of the afternoon. This puts many record high temperatures in jeopardy, some which were set over 100 years ago.A southwest breeze between 10 and 20 mph with occasional gusts up to 30 mph accompanies the unseasonable warmth.

The sunshine and warmth will give way to showers and thunderstorms developing out west, mainly after 5 p.m. this evening, and advancing eastward with time. While widespread severe weather is not expected, a couple storm cells may still be strong enough to produce heavy rain, gusty winds, and small hail.

Showers linger into Tuesday, mainly during the first half of the day, under a mostly cloudy sky. High temperatures only rise to the upper 60s, which is actually where they should be for this time of year. Wednesday and Thursday, the first couple days of May, turn dry again with high temperatures in the mid to upper 70s.

A few storms move in again on Friday, and scattered showers and storms are expected over the weekend. Temperatures continue to hover in the 70s.
