The widespread watch stretches to the east and west of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, also including parts of Central Texas, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. The watch will be in effect through 1 p.m. Sunday. Heavy rainfall could result in flash flooding for parts of North and Central Texas, the weather service said.Low-lying or urban areas, along with areas with poor drainage, are vulnerable. Creeks, streams and rivers could see rapidly rising water levels, according to the NWS.
Average rain totals are expected between 1 and 3 inches over the weekend, with a few isolated areas southwest of Dallas-Fort Worth seeing rainfall totaling 5 inches or more, according to the NWS. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop Saturday afternoon, mainly north of Interstate 20, with the storms expected to increase overnight. The threat of severe weather will mainly be west of Interstate 35, according to the NWS.Simulated radar images from the weather service show much of North Texas covered by storms or showers at about 4 a.m. Sunday.The chances for showers or storms are expected to continue through next week.
