Michael Welch, who will be replaced on a temporary basis by North Pole Mayor Pro Tem Chandra Clack, is running for a seat in the Alaska House this year.

The initial contract said the streetlights were about 24 feet tall, but in reality, they are 40 feet, and the painting job cost more than expected. “We understand that you have a job to do, but there’s no reason you should be coming, asking us for forgiveness rather than asking us for permission,” an unidentified council member said in a YouTube recording of the meeting.
