North Korean Central News Agency reported that North Korea's National Aerospace Development Administration and Academy of National Defense Science tested the satellite's data transmission, reception, and ground-based control systems, according to Reuters.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said it detected Saturday's missile launch, which occurred days before its own presidential election.It was the ninth missile launch conducted in 2022 by North Korea, which has ramped up missile tests despite condemnation from the West. In January, North Korea suggested it would lift a self-imposed moratorium on nuclear and intercontinental ballistic missile tests, citing"hostile" U.S. policy.
