“Surfer dudes actually talk like that.”

"I have been through a lot of big American cities and a lot of tiny towns. ALL OF YOU — north to south — make Canadians look like Bloody Savages. I expected something worse, probably because of television and the Internet.

I ended up leaving your country after the first time I visited, blown away and with a newfound VERY REAL love for my southern neighbors." —"Walked on to the playground and saw kids chugging these long thin sticks. I [tried one] and realized it was just colored sugar. They called them

red solo cup, I fill you up

When my non-american friends ask me to describe a typical american, I can't answer.we are a very diverse and multicultural nation. I've met people who still think we are all white, blonde and spoiled and we live in big houses and we all have English last names and valley accents.

In regards to one of these, my middle school was in the ghetto, and we had armed security guards patroling the facilities before that was actually common in ALL schools - and this even predated 9-11.

I’m pretty sure that’s just Texas. I know America’s sizes are bigger but Texas sizes are bigger than the rest of America

Lol number 14. I worked at a restaurant one time that literally had a sign up in the break room telling us it was unacceptable to miss more than 8 days in a year. Literally said we should be drug tested if we missed more than that.

I wanna know who checked the stat about circumcision

It frustrates my British husband to no end about the selling of a gallon of milk. He looks at me sideways if I purchase one. 😂

No they don't the fuck?

Is this... literally just a repost of a reddit post? Like you stole a reddit post and put your own fucking ads on it?!

There is so much fake about America that I can see where everyone else would be easily confused. :)

14 'The minimal number of paid days off you get from work.' What's a paid day off? 🤪

Oh, and: 'The minimal number of paid days off you get from work.' My company, under the guise of implementing 'unlimited' PTO effectively eliminated PTO altogether: if you work OT in a month where you take PTO, the OT billed is reduced by the amount of PTO you take.

Even as a natural-born `Murican, I can identify with: 'Drink sizes! Whoa.' I go to the movies and order a small soda, and their 'small' is 32oz ...and then they try to up-sell you. Like, 'If I plow through 32oz, I'm gonna have to take multiple piss-breaks. Dn't need a hog-leg!'

This is fantastic!!

KLV1063 - you will be called upon to count these down with us today. Unreal. 😂

1 thing buzzfeeders know that turned out to be completely true - They quite literally just take comments from Reddit and turn them into an article to make money from.

You mean what people Outside the USA think is Fake!

What a disappointment . You guys didn't even try with this list. One of them is actually just, 'your country is huge.' That's so stupid lol. I've heard and read WAY better lists than this. Examples would be our bread (sugar filled), cheese (terrifying), etc.

15 is real and I’ve never seen anything like it anywhere else. Moreover, they don’t act creepy when they approach me or vice versa.

Actually hilarious post

The 'Everybody's so nice' thing, is because you have an accent. Your accents stun the homicidal drivers into some sort of 'I can't run over you, Hot Accent.' thing. But yeah, I can make a pie. Pie. It's so good.

Unfortunately many US citizens 'read little, believe much, and confuse everything. '

I mean, I shouldn’t be surprised, but this is just a repost of an AskReddit thread. BF Social Media Dude, go rogue and post OC

I totally agree 🇺🇸🤗

Other countries have aisles of just cereal, not sure why that’s a big deal

these are all true. my husband has been at his job for 20 years and gets 10 vacation days a year. so sick days. if he’s sick and wants to get paid for that day he has to use a vacation day. oh it’s a union job too

14. 'The minimal number of paid days off you get from work. 'A friend of mine from Wisconsin was very proud that he got 20 days off per year. If someone in Germany offered me only 20 days, I would laugh at him and leave.' —u/_Warsheep_

Tee hee 😄

20. You can get into university just for being good at sports. That one pisses me off so much. If foreigners question it, why do we allow it?

Come to Dallas Texas where kindergartens cost 50k....

Used to. Not sure about now.

FYI: Free drink refills aren't really 'free.' Part of the price of a refill is added to the price of everything (yes, including drinks). You actually pay for at least one refill with your order, even if you didn't buy a drink in the first place.

The Circumcision thing. So unnecessary :(

15. 'Americans are nice and will stop to talk to strangers.

Drink from them and write songs about them 🤣

Top of the list for me was how Americans are left to suffer and die of treatable medical conditions, simply because they lack access to personal wealth.

Totally

Dollywood is a magical place. DollyParton

18. 'Your country is huge! I got off the plane and asked the cab guy how far the hotel was and he said about 30 miles. I almost had a heart attack.' 21. 'Nearly every man is circumcised, regardless of religion.' **Two of the biggest surprises for non-Americans**

Reading this is so sweet

Where do I begin. Red Solo cups were all over Europe. Gallons are not the only way milk is sold. Everyone in earth who has a car has honked the horn. Sick leave and vacation days very greatly from job to job and state to state, I have 6 weeks off a year.

I met an Aussie, once. He was flabbergasted that American currency could be torn. I took a dollar bill out of my wallet, tore it in half & said 'Here's your American souvenir!' 😄

JFK_z was a spider also carried one in his head for advise.

What sinks chop things? Garbage disposals?

'BuzzFeed episode number 563 on the ways that Americans are weird to the rest of the world, with some items repeated for unknown reasons.'

America is a horrible place and I wish I had died in the womb rather than be born here.

Cool article. Amazing what we consider as the norm is considered mind-blowing to others.

Less than 10% of schools have metal detectors and that number is decreasing

Reposting a year old reddit post verbatim? Fuck off BuzzFeed

The days off thing stings. I miss living in the UK and getting 5 weeks off every year. America sucks that way. After working for 2 years, you get 2 weeks. After working 5 years you get 3 weeks. I'm not joking.

I'm really happy about the 38 days off I get a year plus holidays. How does that stack up against other countries?

I’ll add the $2.00 bill to this list too. An English friend thought I was playing a prank on him.

These are funny. 😂

Number 14 cuts like a knife.

This is really funny to me. 😆

Went in for a funny possibly relatable read, ended up more depressed at the realities.

I truly love this!!!

MAshorobi Are you interested in learning how to make massive extra incomes on weekly basis with binary options trade

I needed a little of this energy today :) You should of seen my first trip to Europe (Hungary) I must have looked like a fool just staring at everything. Experiencing different cultures is so amazing, and I'm pleased to see some light hearted fun poked at my country :)

Thanks for the giggles. 😘💋❤️

Wait, so does England have a 4th of July?!?

People think a celebrity is trying to save children from pedophile millionaires

21. 'Nearly every man is circumcised regardless of religion.' Someone had a WILD vacation.

One was: 'I got off the plane and asked the cab guy how far the hotel was and he said about 30 miles. I almost had a heart attack.' Bruh.......my SCHOOL is 35 miles away. How tf do y'all get around?

Reddit with the gems.

This is so wholesome 😭

I really wish people outside of the US actually grasped how big of a nation we are? It’s so silly to be compared to the EU where half of their countries can fit inside our states. They attempt to generalize us constantly when our regional differences are nothing alike LOL

When I started living abroad, the most striking thing to me, as an American, was how you can actually tell where people are from based upon their airport confidence. Americans literally strut, we walk w/a confident aura of superiority AND openeness. It's strange to see in action.

Do they not have Halloween in the rest of the world?

How about actually doing some of your own work instead of copy/pasting from Reddit ad inifitum?

Notes: 1.What the heck colour busses do the rest of the world’s students ride in? 2. Dollywood was honestly amazing. My favourite North American theme park of all. Just pure and good. 3. No one else Trick or Treats?! Not even Australia? What’s the point of Halloween then?🎃

In my travels I’ve been asked by Non-Americans most often things like ... ~ Does everyone have a horse? (I’m from Texas) ~ Do people really go bankrupt because of medical expenses? ~ Are there really that many guns? (Do regular people carry guns around?)

Thank you for summarizing what was already in a thread on a different site. Saved me no time

If you hadn't fired 47 HuffPost reporters, I might be inclined to read this. Alas, you did do that.

'I went a supermarket for some breakfast stuff... All they had was milk in gallons! Who could possibly want that much milk? I asked for a smaller carton and the lady who worked there just laughed at me and made a remark asking, 'Don’t we like milk in England?'' —u/memesalwaysdie

Looks about white

I have to have 15 years of service before I get 20 days off per year. Sounds like this country could use some labor reform.

'Schools have a ton of extracurricular activities...” And 90% of the time only football/basketball gets ANY mention. Oh the FB team lost AGAIN? “Good luck next time guys! Goooo Owl!” 📣 👏 👏 👏 The Chess/Science/JROTC/Math clubs won Regionals/State/Country? 🤐

what's with you guys putting snacks in small cups

The research while just visiting to find out nearly every man is circumcised...you go girl

WHAT DO YALL NEED 30 TYPES OF MILK FOR

Wonder how much research that user did to verify the circumsion aspect. Also we do have smaller containers of milk

20 paid days off a year? Who the hell gets that? In retail you get 3 days total a year you can take, unpaid, before you get into trouble. You can acrue PTO but its a ratio of like 10 minutes for every 6 hours worked and you can't use it on holidays or other 'must attend' days.

PIE❤🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧❤

'Americans are nice and will stop to talk to strangers...' Right...

24. A small but vocal minority of Americans, who like to congregate on Twitter, are legit retarded.

So glad I was born in the greatest country the planet has ever seen.

I was confused by this until she specified Southern. I agree with that. Northerners are a different breed tho. They look at you like you wanna fight if you even smile in their direction.

Lol why did you use a pic of a European cereal aisle for the one about American cereal aisles?

Having no guaranteed sick leave in a pandemic is killing us

I tried to explain the giant balloons at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade to someone in Guatemala. She assumed the problem was my Spanish (it wasn't); I finally had to draw her a picture of tiny stick people holding ropes to a giant balloon.

Valley girls too

21. 'Nearly every man is circumcised regardless of religion.' Someone had a fun time while in the US 😮🍆

Big one!👋🙂15. 'Americans are nice and will stop to talk to strangers.'

If I got 20 days off for the year, I would be partying!

No one said ”how fat they are”?

Idk about 21, 80% isn't 'nearly all.' And that data was based off 1946-1996, it's declined consistently and by a lot. Would make more sense to do decade stats on that, because if less men are, overall stats would change dramatically. Also, it's 2021.. 1996 = 25 yr ago,1946=74 yr

I love this

24: 'Americans think Benny Hill is comedy genius.' 🇬🇧 (True. However, it is not 'The only British comedy they've ever seen.')

The milk one is odd because it's actually really easy to get smaller than a gallon and I don't know anyone who would laugh at you for wanting smaller.

69 'rich corporations will layoff 47 employees in an online meeting with a cheery password'

Buzzfeed isn't getting fed by me, but I'll say that DollyWood is an amazing place. I've been multiple times and the train ride through the forest was very lovely. Hell. The Smoky Mountains alone is amazing.

24. They call themselves Americans while America is a whole ass continent and not a country and they get mad when people bring it up.

Why wouldn't there be a Dollywood?! Also, 'Red Solo cups are not just a Hollywood prop.' They are a beautiful lawn decoration on Saturday & Sunday mornings.

is Non-American the same as 'foreigners'? In Japan, outsiders are 'gaijin' or -jin of some sort by default.

I wonder if other counties would have more sympathy for Americans if they all knew we get only 10-20 days off a year (if we're lucky), pay for college out of pocket, get only 6wks maternity pay (if we're lucky AND it's not 100% pay)...on & on. No wonder we're all falling apart.

Dolly Parton is a national treasure

If anybody is curious as to why some of these are a thing, I can answer it. Like why nearly every man is circumcised, It's due to health reasons.

14... Many Americans don't get ANY paid days off let alone 20. You're sick no pay. Your kids school is closed for a snow day, no pay. You give birth, better be at work tomorrow so you can feed him.

It’s sad that I saw someone got 20 days off and my reaction was, “WOW! That’s double what I get.” 😭💔

Lol this is just a list of Reddit comments

14. 'The minimal amount of paid days off you get from work. ' 'A friend of mine from Wisconsin was very proud he got 20 days off per year. If someone in Germany would offer me only 20 days, I would laugh at him and leave.' —u/_Warsheep_

14 is very sad... Most places for the avg worker here give you no sick leave. Or if they do it's 3 to 4 and if you get sick more than that.... You just don't get paid or fired.

North Americans** America goes from Canada to Argentina. for being such progre, you're quite ignorant

Aka, another article stolen from Redditors

Fun article. Except for guns in schools.

Ok but my dad taught me that Florida can’t have “angry sinks” cuz the food going down the drain would attract even more gators 👀 but we’re in NC and we can’t have them I’m MAD bc I grew up in California and then not having one is like...we can’t grind it up and prevent clogs WHY

All I understood from this article is that “America is fat”🤷🏽‍♂️. Which is also NOT a rumor.

I love cereal lol

As a general rule, mass media made in a given nation, by residents of that nation, for a primary audience in that nation, won't portray things TOO unrealistically, the size of city apartments aside. /1

There was this tech from Japan who was stateside alone. I asked what he was doing for thanksgiving and he was “huh?” Greens, turkey, duck, chicken, dressing, Mac/cheese, yams, sweet potato pie, cream cheese pound cake, cobbler & much more. I never saw a skinny guy eat so much.

When my cousin visited America from New Zealand, the first thing he noticed was everyone is fat. Yep, can't argue with that. (Side Note: 10 is sad.)

'make Canadians look like Bloody Savages' 😂😂😂

“Angry sinks”.That’s some funny sh t! But for the record our merely”angry sinks”have improved vastly over the years. We no longer manufacture the “chop things up”early technology. We now have the” PULVERIZING”type.Further note, our domestic police now have MILITARY weapons!’Merica!!

What a GREAT article! Being American, in Italy, I was not so pleasantly surprised to find I had to PAY EXTRA for restaurant water?!! And bottled, as well.

u/tschoerk a freak

The milk sizes might differ if you live in a city and a lot more people walk or bike to the grocery store. I know people in the UK were interested in varsity jackets, road trips, and Girl Scout Cookies.

- We have the most expensive healthcare in the world yet the quality isn’t better than most countries. - we pay the most taxes and get nothing from it but war which creates more enemies of America, fueling the need for more war, etc. - our prison system is just like Slavery

Me with 4 gallons in the fridge

😂😂 I wonder what their supermarkets look like then

Who could possibly want that much milk? Those of us who grew up in a family with 7 kids🙋🏻‍♀️ We had at least 2 gallons in the fridge at all times

Don't take this the wrong way, but this is the best article you have ever posted.

Dude I want to live in that bubble.
